Entry steps

The entry steps on our 13 3402 failed yesterday. Went out an rivets seared off. Called Keystone customer service and the steps are NOT on the recall list the suggestion was to go to a dealer and get the bolt kit.We did a temp fix.

We will see if the extended warrantry will cover if not we will buy the new steps from lippert.

So our record is Intact we will not get by the year without a major failure.

Sorry to hear that your record is still intact. If it's true that for every action there's an equal and opposite reaction, somewhere there are a herd of Montana owners who owe you a big debt for their trouble free years.

Sorry it is so but as rv owners we seem to go from putting out one fire to move on to another. Life is short, we will fix and move on right?

I would give you credit for record still being instact. Steps for me not a major failure. Refrigerator dying, stress crack, frame issue, black tank leaking would be for me.

Rich-- send me a PM with your email address and we'll talk! Funny that Keystone replaced ours and several others because of the recall but ours were replaced because of Mary's accident at the CPRR. Send me the info and I'll tell you about it!

Rich, Sorry to hear about your stair failure. Hopefully neither of you were hurt in that discovery. What DQ said X2.

Did Keystone (Montana) change step vendors after the 2012 models. I have been reading the posts about step problems/recalls and keeping a close eye on ours. Ours are as sturdy today as when they were new and have been used full time for 4+ years.

No injuries I just heard a bang and the rivet was on the ground a couple others are bent. Nearly three years of prolonged use up and down hundreds of times. I have always told Keystone that some of us high end users should be a test bed as to how these things hold up. I am not that big under 200 lbs and Helen will blow away in a high wind.

Rich,
I'd call the NTSB. My steps weren't originally on the recall list, but were after the NTSB got involved. Finally had my recall done this week (4 bolts, nylon washers and locking nuts). Stable for now. We'll see how long that works.

Kind of a sideline question. Who do you have for extended warranty service and have you had good service from them? Sounds like you are very experienced unfortunately.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. It's also unfortunate that you can actually track a record about failures. I prefer records on good things.

I am on my 3rd set of steps replaced by extended warranty. The frame on these are starting to crack and the rivets are bending. Next stop is the aluminum foil 4 step for me!!

Check out these steps: www.RV-co.com
they are not attached to the trailer and mount on the first or second step coming out of the trailer. But we love the 24inch landing as you step out plus the hand railing is handy. Well worth the investment.

We could fix the steps but they are flimsy steps we will buy a quality step at the FCRV rally this summer. We do not want keystone to provide us with another set of flimsy steps.

LOL! True, true!
I bought this RV just so I'd have something to spend my money on in retirement
