No axle upgrade, but put on a set of 7K Dexter brake assemblies to replace the 6K. Noticable difference in stopping power ... not as good as going disk brakes though, but way easier on the wallet.

Eddie, your trailer came with 7K axles and the 4000 center support, did it not? It has wet bolts.

If I was doing anything I would weight it and make sure I had G tires or maybe upgrade to 17.5 tires and rims. I added the Mor/ryde X factor for better support for the spring shackles and have no tire wear and the 4000 center support allows for 4" of travel on the center support.

If braking is a issue, change the magnet out to a 8K magnet or go disc.

With the right truck, the current exhaust brakes are the answer to stopping.

Jim

After having an axle go bad down in Texas three winters ago and having to replace it, we went from a 6000lb to a 7000lb because it was recommended by the axle tech that replaced it. We then ran a 7000 on the front and a 6000 on the back of the unit until we traded it in but I did contact Dexter and they said as long as the unit was running level(which it was)down the highways and biways it was fine.

I had 5200# on my 2007' two months later they went to 6000#, when I had an axle go bad I changed to 7000# axles. When due for brakes I'll will check and see what the difference is between the 5200# and 7000# brakes. Axles are still the same.

Had spring hangers break. Wanted Hydraulic by electric DISC brakes which will add 40% more torque to the axle with stopping power so I went with the Mor/Ryde IS system. Highly recommend here.
