I live in Colorado, and used to hunt in the mountains here. 4x4 was very useful then, not so much now, but I still like the confidence of having 4x4 and not having to rely on someone else to get me going if I get stuck. Also, as Mac says, you can't give a 2WD truck away here.
As for the original question, I can think of a lot better rigs than a 4x4 dually for offroad use. They are just too big and unwieldy for much use on the roads I'm thinking of. Remember, other folks use those roads, too, and you may encounter someone else back there. If you're taking up the whole road with your dually, you may both have a frustrating experience.
