Estimate for fuel from FL to OK?
Can someone making a "rough" guess for possible fuel costs towing from FL to OK? I have figured the miles to be about 1,000, but I know I have to consider hills and such. I will use my truck (3500 Dodge Dully Diesel Auto) to tow a 35 ft Prowler Regal. I know, calm down, I still have Miss Montana. This is a "possible" favor for a friend.
Anyone want to take a guess?

$300.00 to about $350.00 for the 1000 miles is my guess. Do we get a prize for the correct answer?

To be on the safe side I would figure 10MPG at 3.00 per gallon your 1000 miles trip would be 300.00.Right now diesel fuel is 3.099 around here.

Thanks,
That's about what I thought.
Countryfolks,
A prize? Well let's see. If I make the trip and someone "hits the nail on the head" I might be able to come up with a prize. Say a FL lottery ticket, or maybe a coconut, or perhaps a Hurricane Tracking map to provide hours of family entertainment.
My friend is needing to pull her rig to OK or maybe Tex later this month. She has offered me $2,000 to pull her 5th wheel. I am just trying to figure if it's cost effective. Of course this all hinges on if I can take the time off work.
I thinik I am looking $300 to $350 for fuel on the way out and then there is campground or lodging fees, because I won't be pulling staight through and food and gas and lodging on the way back.
Thanks for the input.

I pulled from Florida to Michigan this spring. Drove 1200 miles, and used 110 gallons of fuel with my Chevy D/A pulling the 3650RK Monty. I traveled up 77 and pulled through the WV/VA mountains (which were an easy pull). You should be in the ballpark figuring $300-$350 for fuel.

Diesel is going for $2.899 here, but $300.00 would be about right. As for hills, no significant ones on this entire route. Wind would be a far more significant factor depending on which way it blows.

Richfa,
I would not be pulling her rig back to FL. She's relocating to OK for a new career adventure. So It would be just me and LadyRam on the trip back and a lot less for fuel.

fla native, if you go to the Good Sam website they have a trip planning feature where it will calculate the estimated fuel prices for you. It keeps track of the fuel costs in each area that you will be traveling so it can be fairly accurate. I used it on my summer trip to Yellowstone to estimate my fuel costs and it was real close.

I traveled the I-10 route from Florida to Louisiana then north and hit I-20 to I-35 and made it in 23 hours. It was a quick and completely flat road. This is in your favor.
The fuel prices in Oklahoma are really going down right now. The average price for regular unleaded gasoline today was $2.35 per gallon. The last diesel sign I saw on the way back from the lake was 2.75 per gallon. The prediction by Triple AAA is for the fuel cost to keep going down from her on the next couple of months. I would plan as if the prices were going to be high just to be on the safe side and then the extra savings could be another bonus short trip near home.

BJ, before a trip I check the Flying J site just to compare prices in the states I'll be in so I know when to fill up. For our upcoming trip to the rally I see I better fill up before leaving Missouri so I can cross Illinois without filling until reaching Indiana. This is the diesel site but I think there's a link to the gasoline prices site, too. It's just flying j's but you get a feel for which states are cheaper than others.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!
