When do you stop?

Relatively new to the RV world and was wondering when do you stop adding gadgets and tools? We have a 2019 3811MS and every time I turn around I find another safeguard gadget or tool I think I need. Now looking at a Progressive EMS (which I feel is a real necessity) and a Victron BMV-712 Battery Monitor (due to a problem I had on last outing). I travel with a good assortment of tools but always think of something else I need "just in case". Is there such a thing as being too cautious?

A good credit card is the best and lightest “ tool” you can have!
The Progressive EMS should be #1

yes, you can be too over cautious...relax, use your trailer and enjoy it.

you have insurance and a warranty, you will learn what you need as time goes on.

MidMOTraveler says it best. I use to be envious of fellow campers with a basement full of tools and replacement parts for everything. Then I got to thinking what a ton of weight to haul and dollars tied up for something I might need but probably won't. We try and carry enough basic tools for emergency repairs and if something more is needed we just go buy it.

If you don't buy the Progressive EMS you will probably wish you had. Over 9 years of full timing it's saved us more times than I can count. Open ground, miss wiring, surges, low voltage and the list goes on. Yes you have insurance, but do you really want the hassel of having to replace electronics, time in the shop, deductibles etc?

And then when you think you have everything (EMS, TPMS, Solar, Travel'er, air ride pin box), then you turn to the TV. Been having back issues, so tailgate ladder is in order:
https://www.amazon.com/gap/product/B...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And while you're there, how about tailgate assist:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Amazon delivering tomorrow. Way too easy to spend money.

If you get everything the advertisers would like for you to buy you couldn’t haul it all around. Think about will you ever need it or how likely you will need it. Then you can throw at least half away and make room for something you would like to have with you.

Staying connected to this website is also expensive,. These guys think of some of the neatest gadgets to have. And some I think, has one of everything. Lol. I try to stay focused on learning knowledgeable information, then they start talking about a new item.

While not 100% sure, I think I've run out of changes to ours .... but I'm sure something will show up soon. Replacing toilets and tires doesn't count if they aren't broken.

With experience you soon learn what is needed vs what is wanted.
Your preferred style of camping/traveling dictates that.

Personally, I don't need or want an EMS or Battery monitor.
I own much more accurate fluke multi meters with decades of
every single day experience using them. I need a good battery bank and inverter but have no need or desire for solar. Because of where and how we camp, an inverter style generator is a much better option for us. We have absolutely no desire for Satellite TV but do need Bikes, racks and inflatable Kayaks....

Its different for everyone and totally dependent on your experience and preferred camping/traveling style. Fulltimers, long term travelers and weekend warriors all need/want different things.

Well if you want a tailgate ladder or assist you can spend a little more ($70,000) and get a new truck with those 13 way tailgates!!!!

And that's exactly why I spent $60 for these upgrades. Just spent $11k to bulletproof engine, new shocks, brakes, tires and transmission rebuild. I've got a NEW truck with almost all of those upgrades for $11,060 lol. Put the remaining $58,940 back into MY savings account..and no monthly payments!

I've discovered that being overly cautious leads to being over my weight limit

When do I stop? It seems never. I believe you should do everything you can afford to do to make your rv as safe as possible while traveling or sitting. After that it's more about doing your personal touch to make things a little more user friendly. I've done much more to mine than most who part time but I feel comfortable traveling long distances for several weeks at a time without worrying about having to always work on it during and after a trip even though things do happen occasionally. I am now installing the Valterra valves with the rods instead of cables. The sky's the limit but I blame it ALL on this forum lol.

We have added several things to our 2012 3582 that have proved invaluable.
Portable compressor at least 150 psi, led lights, and numerous items that cost very little. One big addition was that of fire prevention. The windows that is designated as an “escape” route for the bedroom is a joke. It would be more accurate to say criminal, but it does go to prove that very few people that design these units are campers. A fact confirmed by several people in the Montana organization. I digress, we have been camped next to 2 fifth wheel that went up in flames due to a faulty refrigerator. My father lost a motor home the same way. I installed a temp sensitive bottle behind our frig, put a small bottle next to the frig on the inside. One next to the door, and the fifth in the cab of our truck. I bought these from Mac the Fire guy at the 2017 national rally and am very glad I did. I also have a welders blanket on each side of the bed. If we can get out eveything else is replaceable.

Something to spend more money on...ARP to shut down refrig before it goes up in fire.
