RV is coming home today

Well our 5th wheel is coming home today. I've had it in a local shop having my suspension upgraded. We are the 2nd owners of our 2955, I've been afraid of the leaf spring hangers since I bought it about 3 years ago. Last Sept. while pulling off of Hwy. 97 in Oregon a leaf spring pin broke and the hangers on the rear axle bent like paper. Well we mostly boondock and the roads are not exactly smooth. I had my leaf spring hangers boxed in with 1/4" steel plate, 1&1/2" square stock welded from side to side on all hangers except one. It had to be able to be removed in case I ever have to remove the galley tank. So the shop welded a bolt removal on that cross brace. Topped it off with all new brakes, seals and bearings. Learned from the shop that when lubing the wet bolt system, the trailer should be jacked up first. He say's grease will not properly enter if weight is on the bolts. Wife and I are planning a trip to Arizona to try out the new upgrade. I can't believe that they allowed those hangers to ever be acceptable for the weight they support?

Piece of mind, I love our Montana. But we boondock more then anything else and I just needed to know that when we go off the paved road, we don't break what I consider the weak link. I wish I could post pictures on here, I would love to show the work they did beefing up my suspension.

I'm sure what you had done will beef up the suspension, however going to the next step in the long run would have severed you much better. What I mean is to remove the junk suspensions most trailers come with and have the Mor Ryde IS installed and be done with problems forever.

I have not done this yet, but if I have any more issues with the stock set up, Its being cut off and trashed and replaced with the Mor Ryde IS system.

We went with the Mor Ryde IS on both our 06 3400 and this 13 3402.

Here are some pics of the issues I had this past summer.

-Found wet bolt completely missing. Probably towed 200+ miles like this (not knowing)
-Upon tarring it apart, found all brass bushings toast. This is with wet bolts that have been well greased.
-All new Emco USA made springs/u blots and Mor Ryde wet bolt kit installed

Improvements look great. On the wet bolts, how do you grease them? When I picked mine up the other day, they said the proper way is to jack up the frame and allow the tires to hang in the air. Then lube the bolts. They said I should do this every 3000 miles if I want them to last. He said he's replaced to many that were simply just greased without taking the weight off.

Since the previous owner also installed 6 point level up, all I have to do is push a few buttons and the wheels will be off the ground. I don't think it is necessary to do that but just taking some of the weight off the suspension will help with getting grease into them.

Every trip when I get home I grease the bolts unless it is a really short one. This way I am ready to go when the next trip gets here.
