traveling in groups - Montana Owners Club

I saw a post about a person wanting to know if anyone was going west and ,if so, would they like to travel together. It got me to thinking (and, yes I do get headaches from it). How many of you have tried traveling in groups and how did it work out? Due to the many different styles and modes of traveling, I just don't see it working, unless it is for a short time to get to a rally or special event. Or, does it work?

In our case that's a yes and no answer. We have friends with a 40' MH and we travel together often. We both run about the same speed and same distance per day so it works well. We're also tried traveling with other friends and it didn't work at all because they couldn't hold a steady speed. 68 one minute 55 the next, our Chevy didn't know what gear it was suppose to be in. So it seems to depend on the folks you plan to travel with.

Could not do it myself, some people like to travel tons a miles a day and stay only a few days at each place But Not me Nice and Easy does it

, That's also why I do not go on Cruises either I do things on me and my wife's own schedule BUT we do like planning and meeting friends at Resorts if we stay a few weeks but I'll get there when I get there

It takes a special friend to travel, and long trips have been the end of many friendships. That said, I have seen caravans advertised, so i think that would work for some folks. I prefer to travel at a slow pace, took 2 months to get from S. Texas to SE Mo last year.

It can also be a problem when one couple is interested in stopping and exploring and the others have a destination in mind and a specific time to be there. We also enjoy meeting with others, but prefer to travel on our own.

It can work but takes planning we went on a 15,000 mile trip starting June of 2012 we started out with 4 couples and a single and ended up with 3 couples and a single, we planned our days travels in advance and worked in enough "do your own thing time" for it to work. We had travelled with the three remaining couples before so we had gotten familiar with each other quirks.

Three of us convoyed to the national rally 2 yrs ago. No problems. Jaybird and Hook are convoying to Mid Atlantic. We expect all to be well.

We have done it several times. The best was have an agreed to travel plan--like drive to Alaska--(we did that with another couple) but the only place we saw each other was at the selected RV overnight spots. On each day, we left when we wanted and arrived when we wanted. At stop overs, if the others did not want to go see something or do something--It is OK to not go. Got to be up front and mature enough.
Worst group experience--when one couple has their family along. The non relative does not exist! Don't try this--We don't communicate with that group any more--and don't want to.

This sounds like the perfect solution. Working on an Alaska trip and will incorporate this into our travel plans...Thanks!

We do quite a bit with friends we know well. Biggest issue for us is private time.

We started our fulltiming adventure with a scheduled caravan from Maine up through New Brunswick and on to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Isle. Even at that, we did not travel in a line. everyone left with a particular next stop and arrived according to their driving habits. This was a great experience for us to "break-in" to the life style.

An agenda that requires traveling down the road together, eating together, stopping together, etc., would be entirely too restrictive for most free wheeling independent Rvers.

I don't think that would work for me. Most MOCers are a go slow take it easy bunch. I'm a type A.

We went to Newfoundland with three other couples one year but there would be days where we went one way and they went the other. We just let them know where we were and would meet up several times for a few days and then separate again.. That worked great for us and we all remained good friends.. Not true for the other three couples that stayed together. They wound up fighting and losing friendships over it.

We have caravanned with MOC and other groups. It is a "experience" and there is good and not so good. There can be issues with fueling 8 or 10 5th wheels, finding a place to eat, finding a Campground to overnight . A long line of 5h wheels can be a traffic issue. It does take some skill and planning to caravan. We enjoy the occasional experience.
