In-command and iPhone pairing

How many devices can be paired with the in-command panel so they can operate stuff through the app?

I have been able to pair our iPad - but I would also like to be able to use my iPhone or DW’s iPhone...but both phones just “spin” on the “connecting” message. Have any of you been able to pair multiple devices? Or is one device all that is allowed?

We have two android phones paired. Both work well.
