First Big Adventure!

We had our first outing with the Mountaineer this weekend. We went to a state park not far from where we live. It turned out we didn't pick the best weekend with temps. in th mid-30's, gusty winds and dropping to the high teens at night but we decided to go anyway. We had our pick of sites so were able to get a nice level site that was easy to get into. Aside from being cold and windy the weather was bright and sunny. A least it looked warm from inside the coach. It was a nice weekend for us to get acclimated and organized with living in the trailer and it was very comfortable. Everthing worked perfectly and I'd have to say it was a success. We're already looking forward to the next outing hoping for better weather so we can put out the awning and lawn chairs.

Always good to hear that you had a great time, especially first time out. One of the neat things about the Montanas, it's really okay to be "stuck" inside! When we were at Cotton Hill C.O.E. Park at Thanksgiving (and at Christmas!) we had our "pick" of the sites and we were able to meet Everyone in the park ! Here's to more good times in your Montana!

Congratulations on your new 298RLS. Isn't it nice to be able to say you went out, had fun and "no problems with the Monty!"...Our prior travels with an Aspen made by Frontier became a tale of misery....everytime we went out we discovered a new problem and we just loved to pay storage fee while it sat at the dealer's waiting to get fixed!!! After talking to several Montana owners we were sold. Took the loss and drove off last May with our new Monty. We have had nothing but wonderful experiences over the past year in ours.

Like Lisa said, getting stuck inside isn't a bad thing. We were plenty comfortable. Did some reading, watched a couple of old movies and just generally enjoyed the downtime.
We'd never owned an RV before so really didn't know what to look for but after I found this forum and looked at a couple of Montana's everything else seemed to be a disappointment. We're very pleased with our Mountaineer so far.

Way to go. That is definitely a good omen when all is well the first trip out. Now you can hit the road for some great adventures. Enjoy it every chance you get.

Steve, understand completely. We took our first long trip in our new 5er and it was the same for us. Cold and windy. Went to Myrtle Beach, SC and it was too cold to do much outside. Sure was nice inside though. Several other "brands" around us had problems with pipes freezing. Thanks to the arctic package and heated tanks, we had no problems. So far, so good with the Monty.

Hi Steve & Carla!
My wife is from Dunn, NC so we hope to make a trip there to visit family next summer. I hope we have time to go on down to Myrtle Beach for a few days. I've always wanted to go to the outer banks also.

Hey Steve & Jean,

If you get to Myrtle Beach, check out Willow Tree in Longs, SC. It is away from the beach but a super CG. We like Myrtle Beach Travel Park when we want to be right on the beach. Camp Hatteras in Rodanthe is the CG we like in the Outer Banks. Great to hear from you and Keep Kampin'.

Congrats on your successful trip! We did our first trip with the Mountaineer this weekend also. Actually spent the first night on the dealers lot to make sure if anything was not working they could fix it the next day. No Problems! We left for 3 days at the Mercer KOA where the weather was in the single digits and it snowed several inches each night, but we were nice and snug in our Mountaineer - furnace worked beautifully, hot water, books and movies - it was great!

When we closed up the slides though we had to get up on the roof to knock off some of the ice that was preventing the slides from closing all the way. It was cold!

Only downside is that we missed meeting a fellow MOCer who lives only a few miles away from our campsite. We didn't get their email before we left home.

Glad you are happy with your Mountaineer - we are too!
