Successful Shakedown!

Well, this weekend we completed our shakedown cruise! No problems, only minor issue with the propane and regulator. Everything worked fine including the surround sound speakers, DVD player, microwave, convection oven (Which, by the way might be just the best thing ever as long as it continues to work!), Fireplace, etc. Couple things I observed after having "lived" in it for a couple of days...would really like to have an inside on/off switch for the electric for the hot water heater. Our last two units have had this and messing with the breaker in a pain in the a** IMO. How hard would it be to put one of those in? So, we can pretty much say the first trip was uneventful, and hopefully, so will all the rest! Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions!
Cheryl

That is great and I hope it continues that way. I agree about the breaker.

Glad to hear your "shake down" went smoothly, that is always a plus. I agree with the electric switch - I use the breaker to turn ours off.

Safe travels. Enjoy!!

Good to hear that you first outing was trouble free. Hope you have many more.
There is a thread about adding a inside water heater switch. It has good instructions is easy to do or should not cost much to have it done.
Enjoy your new 5er

Glad to hear you trip was a success.
I guess I'm weird or something, I turn my water heater off in the water heater compartment. It's part of my " walk-around " or, pre trip inspection. The switch is easily accessed, and I'm there anyway.

I have a 2000 and I have a breaker for the water heater in my breaker panel of the converter. I thought all the Montanas did. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones and it isn't usually something you would look for when buying a unit. I just leave the switch on the water heater in the "on" position and control whether or not I want the electric on by use of the inside breaker.

Orv,

That is the way Al does it too, but I think some of the new converters are mounted in less convenient places. Haven't I seen them mounted in the potty room, over the toilet?? and other high up places??

Guess we have to join the weirdos (Dave that is a word). We turn ours on outside when we are hooked up and they are paying for the electric. We don't leave it on when hooked up here at home unless a guest is using it. Then we try to remember. In an emergency, the propane heats it up really fast.
Happy trails.....................

yep - above the potty in the 3400. Guess it's OK as long as your not standing in the potty when you start flippin breakers.

I noticed that too Lonnie, we saw a new 3000RK at the Durango Dealer. Nice rig!

To be honest, I didn't like all that electrical hardware on the bathroom wall of the 3400, and no cabinet. I guess you have to have a certain tolerance with each floor plan or you would never decide.

Congratulations on your shakedown trip, we finished out shakedown on our 07, 3400rl, today also. Ours was successful, everything worked except the surround sound. It is a mess and I need to rewire it. Other than that all is great. Thursday we are taking it on the road for a short trip, be gone may 2 or 3 weeks or so.

On the electric for the H20 heater, my last unit had a switch, as well as breakers, etc., someone was always hitting the switch, which would trip the 30amp park breaker. I finally turned off the circuit breaker in the junction box. With the 50 amp rigs you probably wouldn't have that problem, but believe me you don't want an easily accessible switch

Another successful shakedown on the 3400 - Yippee! Congratulations Jim and Joan! Curious about your sound system issue - I read an earlier thread some were messed up from the factory. Anxious to hear your fix.

When touring the 3400, I did hear a sound coming from one of the display models. Someone had bumped the water pump switch in the hallway and turned the pump on with no water. Probably had been running like that for days (don't want that one). It's not a great place for the monitor panel.
