Maybe a dumb measurement-related question

Being relatively new to the fifth wheel scene and Montanas, I see the model numbers thrown around all the time. I get the RL, FL, MB, etc, but is there any rhyme or reason to model numbering? Do the numbers have any meaning besides a new model?

When Keystone started making Montanas the model number was the square footage, 2955 RL had 295 square feet but now I think it's just a number. If that isn't correct someone let us know and we both will learn something.

Most times there is a (relatively) close correlation to length. Our 353 is just over 35 foot long. Possibly the length from the hitch pin to the back bumper.

Or at least that is what we found!

Numbers do not mean much anymore. The 3400 on my 06 3400 and the 3402 in my 13 3402 have no meaning.

So, when someone mentions they have a 3611 or a 2955 do you literally have to Google it to see what they are talking about? The sq ft makes a whole lot of sense if that still holds true and in some way could correlate to length. But if they are just arbitrary numbers then I guess I better start writing my Spotter's Guide!

Another question that those at the Florida RV Show in Tampa can ask the experts from Goshen that are down at the Show. The post prior to this was asking about the length and hopefully some of the MOC member showing up for the annual MOC members meeting at the Show tomorrow can ask and get an answer to this question also. Watch for posts tomorrow night and see if anyone gets an answer for this question also.

When we bought our 3400RL we were told the 3400 indicated interior length. 38 1/2 feet minus the front closet comes out pretty close but I would agree that the numbers today don't mean much. It would be great to get the real story from whomever numbers these units.

I just go to the Keystone site and look at floor plans for that year.

I have the leaky brain syndrom, but, I did ask a question at the Fall Rally a couple of years ago concerning the measurements printed in the brochures and the obvious difference in the "true" lengths.

The response as, I remember it:

We measure the units from the center of the pin to the back of the bumper.

I pointed out that I had to park ALL of the rig including the ladder and the full nose cone in a campsite.

I think we were told it is one of the industry standards, how to measure??
