Crown Moulding

Hi Guys I have a 2018 3920, im sure other rigs have the crown moulding with LED lights, anyway my question is has anyone experienced an issue with the crown coming loose? The dealer already fixed it once with the same brad nails, any advice on how to permanently keep them up? Thanks

Tony

Had the same problem with mine, they fixed but not sure for how long. Also trim falling down in closet, they just used small brads through paneling to hold trim on.

Yes, I’ve had this same issue. I bought trim head screws to secure the crown moulding.

did you try to find studs or was/is there enough grab to keep them in place? Also how far apart did you use the screws?

I did think about using glue or epoxy but was afraid to ripping off the wallpaper stuff they have on....

Do you recall what length screws you used?

I had the same problem and I screwed it into the wall. No issues after that. I believe it was a 1 inch screw.

Well the 1 inch didn't work I need to go back and get at least 1.5 inch and maybe a thinner screw. Forgot how wide the bottom of the crown is !!

Yes 1.5 inch is what I used. Get the smallest size that is 1.5 inch long. Have had no problems since I used the screws.

I have a question relating to this topic. So far my crown is still holding up but the LED lighting appears to be coming loose in spots and doesn't look uniform the total length. How is the lighting attached to the ceiling and has anyone had the same problem and is it difficult to remove the crown molding without damage to wall or crown. Also how was the light reattached again properly this time. Thanks Chuck.

I think the LED light strip is screwed into the wall and the crown brad nailed along the bottom. I have a LED light on top of one of the cabinets and its screwed down. I dont think I have LED lights on the ceiling I would need to double check that.

If yours is not coming off you are LUCKY lol

FireFighter,

If you're talking about the LEDs behind the crown, some of mine came loose too. On my '15 3611 the LEDs were just stuck on... like dbl sided tape... to the wall. The dealer's services guys took care of it so I'm not sure, but I think they just pressed them back into place.

Thanks, i was figuring that's how they were most likely installed. Guess it's a project in the spring.

when I put up crown molding I use brads with a bead of paneling adhesive. Double back tape sounds about right for the led strips

You can also use ring shank paneling nails from Home Depot or Lowe's.

I just shot 2" long brad nails with my brad nail gun with the stain color on the ends. I also shot two nails near each other at opposing angles, so they can not just pull out of the thin walls. As far as the rest of the trim in the RV, I used my 1-1/4" long brad nail gun with stain on the ends and shot those at angles as well. All of the trim will come loose when you are bouncing down the highways of this country. Some states worse than others!!!

Crowne

I used deck screws on mine and colored the heads. Also had to remount front window curtains with ‘L’ brackets. The construction methods used get the rigs off the lot and that’s about it
