Snow birds
We are thinking of heading south this winter form Oregon, do not want to travel in CA if we can help it, so looking at AZ or NM, any help on campgrounds would much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

We work camped in Arizona the last three years and enjoyed the Phoenix and Yuma areas a number of folks should be along soon with park recommendations. We love NM, but wouldn't winter there. NM is a much higher elevation that much of AZ and can get cold and even snow in many parts of the state.

If you are set up to do some boon docking would recommend the BLM areas of Quartsite, Imperial Dam (just north of Yuma) you can buy a 2 week pass for $44 dollars and there are 7 BLM areas in the Yuma area where this is valid. Quartsite also has a 14 day free area. Also consider Mittry Lake wildlife area, 10 days free in any one year. VFWS are also useful free dry campgrounds.

My wife's mom and dad used to stay in Mesa. It was a pretty nice park. There are RV parks all over the Phoenix metro area. Some are nicer than others and some are in more desirable locations than others. Look for a location that works with what you want to do during the winter. (Just about anything that you want to do is available.) Wait for the traffic to clear and than go do your thing. Than get back by about 3:30/400 and avoid the evening rush hour. Have fun.

We stayed in Gold Canyon, just 5 minutes outside of Apache Junction. There are 2 RV parks. Both very nice. You are outside of the city but close enough for all of the conveniences. Close to lots of hiking trails and golf courses

Lake Havasu City great place for snow birds. Park rents are low and resterants are low cost.

Distant Drums in Camp Verde is a great campground. We stayed there for March and April and the weather was incredible. 90 minutes to Phoenix, 45 minutes to Prescott and 50 minutes to Flagstaff.
