Even better than Sliced Bread

Did a little personal gift giving and bought a Max Brake controller for my truck. I've loyally owned a Prodigy for years with good brake control, but I have to tell ya, the Max Brake is waaaaaay better. It's really close to making those of us with older trucks have comparable braking performance provided by the integrated systems on the new ones. It's easy to install and a breeze to calibrate. You don't even need to have a trailer hooked to your truck to do this as it is brake pressure controlled. The more you step on the brake pedal, the more pressure you create, the more voltage this unit sends back to your RV or trailer. The photo shows a tee you have to install in series with either brake line on your brake master cylinder and a short steel line with the transducer on the end ... thats it. It even comes with a direct connect plug for the factory wiring depending on your vehicle. I've tried it out in a parking lot and on the road with no change in gain, the Montana has instant braking with no low speed tire skidding on loose stuff. No I'm not getting an advertising fee, I'm just amazed! It's a tad pricey at $350, but no more than the sales tax you'll pay should you buy a level-up system.

Had a similar control back in the day before ABS, etc.- As I recall, it was not recommended on brake systems with ABS- Do you know this has changed? I would certainly look into this system if you can supply current data- Many THANX for posting!!! JMHO- Don

Concur the MAXBRAKE is sweet! Truck and trailer feel as "one" now with GREAT braking, albeit one downside is I've taken some more risky slowdowns to test it.
However, installation is not always as easy as they say as I could not get the stock Brake Line to go back into the provided T fitting well/easy enough on my own. I used the proper brake line wrenches, pipe bender, but ended up having to have my local garage experienced mechanics redo it which included a new T fitting and stock brake line... My attempt was a little off and leaked. Also, I painted the inside display unit Black to match my interior.

Recommend "Plug-it-Right.com" as vendors - provided great service as I dealt with my personal problem.

RRman ... I guess each would have his own experience with installation. Since the tee is less than an inch long, I didn't have to bend anything on my stock brake line ... it screwed right back on. A rule of thumb from the mechanical trade ... "if it won't screw back on by hand, don't grab a wrench and try to persuade it". As for shaping the 6" line included in the install kit ... I just eased the bend by hand so the transducer wouldn't be sticking up in the air. I added a bit of foam and a wire tied the line to the existing brake line to add a little support as seen in the photo. Glad you like the controller!

We put the same Max Brake on last summer and love it. Would buy it again in heart beat. Not another breaking system we had could even come close to it. Expensive but worth it.

I installed one on my new truck after reading about all the disappointment with the factory controller and was amazed about how well it works. Would do it again in a heart beat.
