new tires

i known that this has been talked about more times but i have a problem and you all seam to help me along with all the decision i have made with that said i just got my 2006 3400rl out of the shop after writing the check for $8900.00 to get the frame flex fix i got her home and found that i had a bubble on the inside of my tires (i did not but these tires on the last owner did Unicorn Creation LT235/85R16 never herd of them) so i need to fix the bad tire first and was thinking of putting on BFG TA's have these on my dodge seam to be rely nice the price was not to bad either any ideas. Which TA'S are you talking about? Several members are using Commercial TA's and are happy with them

I have teh Goodyear G614s on my Monty which is a 3400. These are not the cheapest tires but I know a lot of folks on the MOC use them.

Another thing to get is a good tire pressure monitoring system. I use the TST system but I know there are other good systems out there. I originaly had a Hawkshead which I never could get to work right.

I also have had no luck with the Hawkshead.
Love the G614's on my '07 3400 RL. BUT, with the 80# rims, I would not get them, some have, but IMO don't, Maybe you have the wagon wheel? I don't know about them. Good luck with what you decide, just research it real good.

this is why i ask all of you guys on this topic i need some real help the first price i got on the Goodyear G614 is 442.00 out the door so there goes the rest of my yearly budget and maybe next year to there got to be cheaper then this

Based on the age of your rig, unless you've got new wheels on it, the wheels are rated for 80# air pressure. The 614's need a 120# wheel so if you have the 80# wheel you need to look at a good LT tire.

I think I paid $250 each shipped to my door and then I had Shwab mount them for I believe $25 each. Now all I have to do is look up who I bought them from. I will see if I can find that info and edit my post to include that web address. Sorry to hear about the cost to fix your trailer as I just dropped $9,100 on my truck so I know how bad that hurts.

i think that i'm going to go with the bfgoodrich commercial t/a - lt235/85r16/e they are running around $176.00 each unless they are bad

Dick, you are correct on the 80psi rims, if they are the Tredit TR6 wheels, HOWEVER, the weight of the trailer dictates the pressure of the tires, for example, I had the TR6 wheels also that Tredit certified for 110 psi and later took that cert away. I bought upgraded wheels, TO4's , I believe, were $65.00 each thru Tredit. I then checked the Goodyear pressure table for the 614s and for my stated weight per tire I ran 95psi for two years without a problem.
My 614's had a 110psi limit on them and the TO4's were rated for 110psi. I feel the 614 is the best trailer tire on the road, some say they may be overkill, but how much overkill does one put on safety? Although very rare, I admit, I have seen pictures of rigs laying sideways along the roadways WITH the truck still attached. I didn't want to be one of those, at least due to a tire failure. The choice is your, of course!!!!!

I know that you can get them cheaper, I was able get five for 1800.00 out the door and then the tire dealer sold my Marathons for 500.00. I think if you shop around there are other dealers out there with better prices.

Any major brand LT235/85R16E made in the U.S.A. should be very adequate for your unit- I have used Firestone Transforce HT tires for 12 plus years without a failure- I put 4 new tires on the fiver and install the takeoffs on the TV every 4 years- I also rotate all tires annually- It has worked for us- JMHO- Don

Any LT tire of that size with work on an 06 3400. I ran Bridgestone Duravis 500s on mine, they did fine. JMHO, but I think the 614s are overkill and not necessary.

When I replaced my original Monte tires I researched and went with Towmaster. All indications were it was a good tire, NOT. With my problems the other day I replaced them with Carlisle which I had on my previous SOB and never had a problem. Tires are like your truck, every one loves theirs'. Good luck with your choice.

I believe that you will sleep better using LT tires rather than ST tires. The BFG Comm. TA's are probably the best tire for the money. Try to find a ST replacement on the road, unless you have a blowout in front of a tire store not everybody carries ST tires. I quit using ST tires many years ago and also quit having tire problems. My new 343rl HC did not come home with ST tires on it. The dealer changed factory ST's to BFG's to make the deal.

JMHO, but in '09 I found myself standing on the shoulder of the interstate outside Rock Springs Wyoming with a street side flat. Darn me for leaving on vacation without mounting my Goodyear G614's. Not a problem since. Read of ANY dissatisfaction anywhere here with those load "G" skins? I think not. Cheap insurance, believe me.
