Wiring connection
Hi all, I keep getting a message on the dash that says trailer disconnected, My last trip we pulled over and I can push the seven pin connector in the socket deeper and this will cause the message to disappear. Later down the road it will come back on, Any suggestions?

I have a 5th wheel stock trailer that does that some tme and I take a small screwdriver and spread each cooper contact open a little in the male plug and all is well for another month or so.

We had that problem with our 07 monty. We wrapped a bungee around the plug and receptacle lid when traveling. Took care of the issue. We still had brakes when the error message came on but the beeping drove us nuts.

You can purchase a spray electronic contact cleaner at most Radio Shacks or Auto Store which will remove tarnish from the contacts you cannot reach. On the male end, any contact you can reach should be lightly buffed with fine sandpaper or sponge sander or a fine file. Hopefully it is just an oxidation problem and not a lose wire. Worse case, the plug on your truck can be unplugged on the back side and replaced if need be for not too much money. A nuisance for sure and dangerous if the connection breaks at the wrong time.

WD-40 works well to improve electrical contacts. I also wrapped outside of female connector with one wrap of electrical tape to make sure it stays in the outlet.

I take the cap of a BIC ink pen and shove the little pointy part in along side/in between the two plugs like a wedge, once its pluged in real good . Simple and it works real well. Only problem is I usually lose the Cap in between trips.

I had the same problem and solved it with dielctric grease. Works great . I do it every other trip.

I take a ladies wooden nail file (sandpaper covered) and a pair of sheet metal snips and cut the file lengthwise to make it about 1/4" wide and 5" long. use that to clean the contacts in the plug. I tried Radio Shack cleaner and it just evaporated without removing any tarnish. I was also thinking of using Tarnex for silverware but not sure if it may corrode the inside of the plug if not rinsed thoroughly.
