I-70 In Colorado

According to my "The next exit book" at mile marker 383 on I-70 in Colorado there is a rest area that apparently has RV camping??? This is something new to me. Can someone fill me in on what this means. We will be driving through there in a few weeks and I was wondering if that might be a decent place to take a nap in the evening.

Where, approximately is that exit? I live in CO and I might be able to help. I know that some rest areas allow you to park over night and some do not but if I knew the location of that rest area I may be able to help more.

Hi Mac, It looks like it's the Arriba rest area. It's between Flagler and bovina in East Colorado.

Whoa, that's way east, no telling what they do out there on the plains. Seriously I'm not that familiar at all with that area, much more familiar with the Front Range and the western slope.

Do you think that listing means rv camping in the rest area or is it just saying rv camping near that exit and didn't name the rv park?

We will go past that exit in late June and I'll **try** to remember to stop and check it out if someone has not already done so.

Steve, It must just be camping nearby without naming the facility. I went to the Colorado state d.o.t rest area site and one of the first things it says is "There is no overnight parking or camping allowed in Colorado's rest areas". So that answers that.

No overnight parking? I wonder if that also means rv's and semi trucks? I asked a highway patrol in Iowa where it said no camping and asked him to explain the rule to me. He said it is meant for tents, homeless people and hitch hikers who build makeshift campsites. They do not have a problem with semi and rv drivers parking overnight as long as you do not open the slides and take over the parking space. He has seen rv'ers go as far as opening slides, putting out lawn chairs and bbq on their propane grills, thus blocking parking space for additional truck drivers. I have done the overnite in a rest area a time or two, I usually try to get between two semis to help block me from view, but also helps keep the road noise of passing trucks/cars down. Did not find any surprise tickets come morning.
