3650rk island

Ran into a small problem while home on R&R during Christmas. We have a 2004 RK and the DW tends to load up any shelves/drawers/storage and the drawer support for the island in the rear kitchen fell apart. Now don,t get me wrong, we love our Monty but the engineering leaves us wondering sometimes. It seems that the support for the drawer in the kitchen island was hanging form under the counter top with some 1X and those thin little "staple nails?". Anyway, it failed. What I did was go to the local Lowe's/Home Depot etc. and got some more 1X(6ft)and some "L" brackets. I then re-supported it from the floor of the storage area with the 1X making a type of horse shoe bracket and secured it to the staorage cabinet with the "L" brackets. Now it works fine, will take four times the weight and the repairs are inside and out of sight.
I am back in Iraq again so I can't send any pictures but anyone with the "RK" model may want to look at that area for extra support before they lose that drawer.

Didn't you know? Montana sells kits. You have to put it together yourself. Sometimes it feels that way when you have to make what seems to be stupid repairs. But doesn't it feel good when the fixin' turns out better than the original?

I look at it this way..These are recreational vehicles designed to be lived in 30 or 40 days a year.If we are going to live in them full time or 6 months a year we are going to have to bring them up to that standard..The drawer falling apart I can deal with and make it better.I don't want the slide to fall off or the roof to leak..know what I mean...

Starting with the 05 models I believe Keystone went to more screws and less staples so this may not be a problem with newer models.
Happy trails..................

I just got a brochure in the mail from Excel fifth wheels. They claim that there is more than 3,000 screws and 4 gallons of wood glue used in the construction of thier coach. Boy there is something to ponder for awhile...

So who counted all those screws..I'll bet it's the same guy who counts the pepperoni on the Donato's pizza.
