King pin Tripod - Will it stop movement?
I know this topic has been discussed in the past with comments being both pro and con as far as support on front end of fiver. I am wondering if one of the better tripod mounts will help in eliminating any of the movement/ shaking that is felt when someone else walks around in fiver. I wheel chock one side of trailer and put a tire x chock on other side. Any suggestions would appreciated.

I used one the first year I had the Monte. It did reduce the movement some but by no means did it eliminate it. There was still noticible movement when walking. And a lot of movement when the clothes dryer was spinning. I paid something over $120 8 yrs ago as I remember and felt it was one of the better ones at the time. Sold it after a year and installed struts (JTStrongarm) on the legs and stabilizers and never regretted it.

Happened to be the topic on RV travel today, here's the link: http://www.rvtravel.com/?q=node/1916
We had a good one and it helped some, but the springs were still a problem and the tripod was a PINA any time we moved. Level-up is the only real answer and you can still get a little shake.

I don't think anything will completely remove it save putting the whole thing on a foundation. If there's any weight on the axles & springs/tires, there willbe some amount of 'bounce'. A king pin tripod will take out a littlt. Something like JTs will take out a lot more. Any system will also add weight as well. Nothings free.

Horsing around the tripod, trying to find a storage spot while in route, user unfriendly on any site that has a slope, and minimal help with reducing movement makes JT's or similar soooooooooooo much better to have on your fiver. That's why you can run across tripods for really cheap. Owners want to be rid of them ... people in the know don't want them. Some movement is just life of an RV'er ... even Level Up won't eliminate all shake.

My experience with the tripod is exactly as everyone has already stated. I went with SteadyFast and X chocks between the tires on both sides. Better than the tripod but still not as good as the level-up system which I am not going to put on a 9 year old unit. Dieselguy says it best, "Some movement is just life of an RV'er" Jim

I had one several years ago, really didn't change a thing. While staying at a campground my neighbor there asked about it and if I liked it, I ended up giving it to him for nothing. Should have at least traded it for a 6 pack of beer!

Wow! I didn't realize what a great deal I got. At an RV park I set mine in front of the Monte with $40 sign on it. Left for about an hour and when we returned a lady came running over and said her husband wanted it.

The tripod may have been the worst buy I ever made. IMO it did nothing.

We have a 2014 Big Sky with Level-Up, but aren't using our king pin stabilizer today, so we aren't who bigskyjimmy is talking about. We do, however, use ours if we are gonna be set up for an extended time. It does help a little when the washer is spinning. (Ours is in the front.) Would I buy another one if we didn't have it? Probably not.

When we had Level-up added we left the rear stabilizers. They help more with the washer than the tripod ever did.

In order of ability, I believe at the bottom is the tripod. It does its job but just for the front of the rig, which is okay, cuz it's where we sleep. It also helps me prevent hitting my noggin when I have the need to stoop into the front storage. Second, a little more expensive would be the JT Stabilizer or the SteadyFast (a little simpler and it's the one on my shopping list. Then finally any kind of expensive hydraulic or electric systems like BigFoot or Level-Up, but I'd need to rob a bank to afford this.
So my experience if it helps, but it's what I bought because I didn't know any better when I first bought my Fiver. Now for the knowledge and value, it's an affordable SteadyFast (easy to store, and lighter than the best stuff). I'm very happy if anyone can afford the expensive automatic stuff, but that's not me. And yes, do know what you are doing to your Trailer Weight.

We went right out and bought one with our first used Montana as most Newbies do. It probably didn't make any difference in stabilizing our 3400RL and it sure doesn't make any difference under our 3725RL.
While traveling we don't haul it with us. But while sitting in one place we always put it back under the king pin. We use it to lock our bikes up to. Around the holidays we string lights around it to make our outside Christmas tree. I figure we bought the stupid thing we may as well keep using it.

WOW! Thanks to EVERYONE for all your input on this. I am thinking this will NOT be something I will be getting. Kind of like buying a boat, putting it in the water and complain about it moving with the waves. I guess I might sleep a little better knowing I did not waste my$$. I might go for another X chock on the tires and call it good.
Thanks again to Everyone!!

Short of putting the Monty up on concrete blocks (or overhauling with a new 6-point hydraulic leveling/stabilizing system), I've had good results using my tripod, the landing gear, and something slightly different at the back end... I use 2 sets of plastic leveling blocks (1 pack of 10) under each scissor stabilizer at the rear of the Monty. Since the rear scissors doesn't go down as far with the blocks under them, they are not as much of a column as "fully extended", and inherently wobbly.
