New Truck

Ordered a new one! After driving to and from the 7 Feathers rally in Oregon up and down 200 miles of 6% grades we decided it was time for a new truck. Our old 2002 F250 with the 7.3 did the job ok but all the new F250's were passing us all the way. Got home late Wednesday night, rested Thursday and was at the Ford dealership Friday afternoon. After looking over all the trucks on the lot we decided that we were going to have to order a truck the color and way we wanted it. Decided on a 2015 F250 Lariat Crew Cab 4x4 SWB with the 6.7 Diesel and all the pulling and cab extras. The new 6.7 with 440 hp and 860 ft lb torque should do the job. The only problem is waiting 6 to 8 weeks to get it.

You will love that truck! I bought mine from dealer stock in 2012. I wanted to stay below $50,000.00 because I knew there would be stuff like air bags added later. I only got the XLT Premium package and not the Lariat. It has over 43,000 miles on it and I love it, but I sure wish I would have bumped up to the Lariat package.

Congrats Frank! Did my passing you by on I-5 encourage you or did the 7 miles of 6% grade up Mt Ashland do it? Not only will you have more power, you will get a tad better mileage, and you will love the exhaust brake coming down the hills. There is some learning curve to the exhaust brake but once you figure out what speed/gear are its most effective sweet spots, you can forget using brakes.

Carl, yes you were one of the rigs we watched go by us. Down hill with our rig was not to bad as we have a B&D exhaust brake set up on the truck. The long, long uphill pulls were the main reason for the change. Next year's trip to Jackson will be as easy as the following year back to 7 Feathers with the new truck.

That old 7.3 could have been modded to compete with the new trucks, pulling/power-wise, for not an unreasonable amount of dough as long as the trans was in good shape.

That 7.3 was a proven, durable performer, and I had found one that had a manual transmission, I would have taken it over any new truck out there. Instead, found a 2007 Dodge with the last of the 5.9L CTD with a manual transmission and manual transfer case. Put a Smarty Jr. programmer on it, and it outperforms the new stock rigs.

...but, anyway, congrats on the new rig.

I too loved my 2003 7.3., F450, she was a great truck! After one uphill pull with the new big Ford 6.7 and forgot all about her!

I agree you will love the truck. We had an '07 F350 6.0 that I thought had plenty of power. But the '12 F350 6.7 is really amazing on how much more power it has.
