Weather Radios

I was reading a book on RVing and they mentioned that it is a must to have when traveling in the USA . They also said to buy the radio in the USA if that is where you are hauling. Can anyone enlighten me on this and what kind to get .

We have (now 'had') a NOAA weather radio. We hauled that thing thousands and thousands of miles...and never turned it on. It had to be programed by county, way too much trouble in this day and age of 24 hours news and weather. I gave it away.

I downloaded a Weather Warning app to my IPhone and it follows me were ever I am in the country so I don't have to know which county I am in. You can sellect the milage distances and types of warnings from your current position to warn you of anything coming your way. It really works good. It's called Pro Weather Alert.

I had one a few years back, but it was always over reacting to "severe weather". It became an irritant. It sat so long on the shelf that the batteries leaked internally and the radio was toast. There are too many better sources for weather updates via cell or PC in the area you are at the moment. I know someone will chime in with "yea but what if the cell phone towers are destroyed". Hello, by then the disastrous weather you were forewarned via your cell or PC would be long gone.

This

http://www.amazon.com/Oregon-Scienti...her+radio+noaa

is what we have, it works real good for severe weather. If its just raining though, it doesn't go off. But you can push a button and it will tell you whats going on in your area.

We had a weather radio and found that a lot of places we camped, particularly in Kansas where we needed it, we got no reception so we went with a cell phone app.

It should bethe first thing put in your RV. We have always had a NOAA weather radio, but it recently gave out and we replaced it with a Red Cross emergency radio. We lived in tornado alley for 30 years, Oklahoma, and I can't tell u how many times it saved our bacon,
