The above is what happened to us in our "meltdown" It is documented. These front compartment fires happen to often.

John mentioned that he installed a fuse in the hot conductor. His Monty is an '07. Do the '08's and '09's also lack a fuse in the line? Seems to me that it should be a basic safety feature for any circuit out of a high-current battery. To the electrical types out here, is there such a thing as a Zener diode that handles enough current for this?

Why not put a 40 amp relay such as this on that wire, where it is only activated when plugged to the charge circuit on the truck? IIRC, GM uses a 40 amp fuse on that circuit. I did make sure our plug is hanging down clear of the pin box. I want to thank the OP for bringing this issue up. Seems RV manufacturers need to take a look at changing this.

I want to thank all who have commented on this. I still don't know much but I know more than I did.

A friend's Holiday Rambler product, a Savoy I believe, has a dummy 7pin receptacle mounted on the side of the pin box. I have a piece of old bicycle tube that I am putting over mine.
