TV in Shop!!!

Went to start my truck yesterday and it was dead as a door nail. Had to have GS Roadside Assistance tow it to the dealer. They said it has major electrical issues and none of the computers and modules are talking to each other. Took 6 hours of diagnosis to find out the module that recognizes the chip in the ignition key to allow the truck to start is completely dead. New module is on order! Also having them do a 4x4 service, oil change and tire rotation while they have it in the shop.

This morning they called me and stated the front differential pinion seal is leaking badly and needs to be replaced also. So far $2600.00! Suppose to get the truck back today so we can pack-up and leave (I Hope).

Holy cow! Sometimes when it rains it pours! Hope they don't 'find' anything else to fix. SHEESH! Hope it's like new when you get it back.

96% of the Ford trucks built since 1990 are still on the road the rest made it home.

At least you weren't on the road when this all reared it's ugly head.

I just have a question: If the Front Pinion seal is leaking so badly, you never noticed and spots on the ground under the Truck?? Sorry, but for the most part I don't trust most places any farther than I could throw their building and always question when suddenly there's this serious problem that has to be fixed or your truck will fall apart.

A few months ago we took my brothers 06 Dmax to have it inspected at the dealer. This truck had 60,000 miles on it and had been garaged. They called and said the brakes were worn out. We had checked them and knew that wasn't true. They also said the rotors were rusted so bad they had to be replaced. We thought that wasn't true so we said we would just come and get it. The rotors looked like new. I guess they thought we would just take their word and were card carry members of the ID 10 T club (idiots). We were born at night but it wasn't last night.

6 hours of diagnosis??? Guess it didn't throw the right error codes for them to track it down (or the guy operating the analyzer didn't know what he was doing). I never heard of this happening but that doesn't mean it can't. I hope you get squared away and are sipping beverages in the sunshine soon!

I had one of our business vans in to the dealer for state inspection. Advisor said the tech said it had a serious oil leak. I said, funny, there are no drip spots on the pavement where it is parked daily. Must have recently started he said. I said do not repair it. Months later and still no drips. And no change in oil level.

DON'T trust your dealers! My warranty was expired when I needed a front accuator for the 4x4 went bad and it cost me $400 to replace. I bought an extended warranty for 48 months for $2900. The next time in for service, the same accuator was bad, leaking seal from transfer case and a "bad" front wheel bearing. Total cost was $1500. With my extended warranty I paid $56. I still feel they "found" things wrong because of my new warranty. They have always come up with extra things like power steering flush, brake flush, wiper blades at considerable expense. I have turned down most of these items. Whenever you have warranty they come up with a lot of "repair needed".

Another famous "needs a new cabin air filter" scam! When I asked them how much they said 69 bucks, I said, well forget what I said! I can fix anything on my truck other than electrical diagnostics so I am at their mercy for that!

I had an oil leak saw the puddle on the parking area. Soooo off to the dealer, they called a bit later and said I needed to replace the front main seal the rear main seal some oil pump gasket and the oil drain plug gasket was also leaking. This would be an $ 1800.00 plus fix. I told them I would have to wait till the first of December to fix it and I would be in to pick it up.
Got it home and climbed under it. Checked out the front seal. No oil on the front of the oil pan so no leak there.??? The drain plug was leaking. Very little oil in the area between the engine and the transmission caused by the oil leak at the drain plug. I have no ideas where the oil pump is but I did not see any other oil leaking from any other place. Took the truck to where I had the oil changed, they replaced the drain plug gasket. That was about three weeks ago and so far no more leaks. I asked the dealer how they determined where the leaks were coming from and was told me they visually inspected the truck. Called another dealer ( recommended by a friend) and asked them how they would check for oil leaks? They said they would power wash the under side of the engine put dye in the oil and let it run until it showed where it was leaking from.
I am in Cancun for the next two weeks but when I return I will have a talk with the service manager of the first ford dealer that found all those leaks.

My Sister-in-law called me from her VW Dealer in AZ, to ask me if $1250 for NEW brakes was "TO MUCH"! LOL I asked her if they worked when she drove there and if so, take it somewhere else for a second opinion!
She said that it was because the check Brakes light was on! I restated my suggestion and she said "OK!".
Called me back 1/2 hr later and told me she drove about 2 blocks to a little shop that had a big sign that said, "Do you need Brakes?" FREE CHECK.

They found a Brake light out and it trips the Check light on VW's. They replaced it FREE!

They also said she had 60% left!
