Towing
I have a Dodge 2007 2500 5.9 200,000 miles pulling a 3582RL at 14,000 lb. I have put a Jasper rebuilt heavy duty Trans and air bags. I get 13.5 miles per gal on an average. The truck pulls great and I do stop well and on time.

I have a 2007.5 with the 6.7 and I get around 11.5-12 when towing. I might have a little more pulling power but can not say that for sure as I never had the 5.9 in a truck. It takes a lot to stop these beasts and I know I sure like the exhaust brakes on the newer trucks when heading down a grade.. I am sure you will get many miles out of that combo.

You are probably about to start the great debate again (check past posts in the search feature), but as you can see I pull ours with a 2011 2500 and mine is rated to do that.

I had both, my last truck was a 07 5.9 2500 and it pulled well. It did have 4.10's for the rears though. I now have an 07 1/2 6.7 3500, it pulls about the same. But as Larry said the exhaust brake is well worth the change, it's worth it's weight in gold. The new one has 3.73 gears but has a 6 speed tranny which makes up for the difference of the 4.10's. Both got about the same gas mileage towing 10-12 mpg, but the 5.9 of course got a lot more unloaded.

It may work, it should work, it has worked in the past, some will say it will not work, some will say it will, and some will even say you are breaking every law with regards to towing that are on the books. In the end it is your choice as to what to pull your rig with. The numbers do not lie with regards to weights and weight capacities. If you decide to research the numbers (actual weights are the key) and are still comfortable with your towing choice, then that choice is yours. Oh, and welcome to the forum, since it appears you may have introduced yourself with what has historically been a hotly debated subject.

I agree with everyone. If you truly feel good about it, go ahead. Famous line comes to mind, "thus protest too much, methinks"! Merry Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight!

I saw a Hi-Low pulled by a Gold Wing not long ago. Not sure I'd want to try that

One of my "MOC buddies" once encouraged me to "refrain, refrain". So,
Merry Christmas to all and wishing for all a Happy New Year.

Thanks to all and I will look into the engine brake, I have 200,000 on my 2007 Ram 2500, and on the road as we speak.

The best pulling truck is one that is paid for, and not costing you to much money to run.

So, is that mileage hand calculated, or are you going by the Lie-O-Meter in the over-head compass?
...a couple other Q's,
3.73 diffy?
Stock, or do you have a performance chip/module?

How about the "I don't even know the trailers back there!" Always enjoyed that one.

Until you actually forget it is back there, and hop the Goodyear Mara-bombs over a curb while going around a corner!!

When you forget it's back there, that's when you're a accident waiting to happen.
When hauling these "Home on Wheels" around you have to be aware of everything around you. When you forget, that's when bad things happen.
