Don't know about any "Surge", but depends, I believe Fords have a relay that only connects the Trucks battery system for the RV when the truck key is on, while GMs 12V line to the RV is always hot, Rams I don't have a clue.
When stopping overnite, we try to stay hooked up and I'll leave the RV connected to the TV and have had no issue in years of doing this. How ever, if we spend the nite without power I disconnect the RV from the TV, just don't want to take the chance of draining the TV Batteries.
