Dometic Dual Zone Thermostat

Is the "outside temp" function on the Dometic dual zone thermostat an option or does it just need to be connected? i hate to see any device that has a potential function but I can't use it. Anyone have experience with this particular thermostat and function?

I have the same t-stat. Mine also has the button and doesn't work. That said, I did read the instructions and it says the sensor would be up on the roof. IIRC. so as far as getting a true outdoor temp would be very slim.

Mmmm..... When we had our PDI last month, we were told about the dual zone thermostat. And were told the second sensor is in the bedroom next to the ceiling vent, it is all ready installed next to where the second Roof air unit would go if we should choose to have one installed. If you look next to the vent you can see it. Its about two inches across and looks like it has a screen covering it.

The "outside temp" function is different from the second temperature sensor in the bedroom. The "outside temp" is an optional feature which is not installed on Montana's. I suspect it it a hardwired device although I have no proof of that.

I checked with Dometic previously and there possibly is added hardware that is required to activate the outside temperature function. Here is the response that I received:
"The outdoor sensor is provided with the AC unit when it is purchased by the manufacturer. They may be choosing to not have this feature and not connecting it to the control board, we can not answer that question. I can tell you that the sensor is available for purchase thru Dometic. The part number is 3311731.000 and this retails for $18.75, if ordered thru us there would be a $15.00 shipping fee as well. This sensor will need to be plugged into your control board at the P3 connector. Thank you

The second temp sensor next to the A/C in the bedroom ceiling is being relocated by the dealer under warranty on our Monty. Our problem was the temp for the bedroom had to be lowered to 55 or so to keep the unit running because the temp sensor cools quickly with the unit running. Zone 1 would indicate a temp of say 78 and the bedroom (zone 2) would read 59 or so. The temps for both zones would indicate about the same if neither unit had been running. Hopefully, this will improve or solve the situation.

Thank you all for your response. Bingo - thank you for the details. I'm inclined to think this fits my situation. I just don't like to see unused capability if I can help it. Besides, seeing the outside temp would be a good thing. I may just order the sensor and see what happens - after my warranty runs out of course.

TKO, I also thought about getting the sensor hooked up, Like you it bummed me out it didn't work and i had a button for it. Until the tech told me the sensor was on the roof at the ac unit. Really don't know how accurate that would be on the roof, can get mighty hot up there. I added a remote sensor under the front near the pin box works just fine.

Keep in mind the warranty for the air conditioners and even the thermostat is two years. At least that is what our dealer told us.

Bingo - yeah, two long years....oh well I'll find something else that bugs me until it is time. Kevin - did your remote sensor at the pin box feed a separate readout? Do you have a brand name? I would agree that the temp on the roof would be impacted by the heat coming off of the roof material and not just the ambient air temp. But, like I said this is one of my pet peeves...just don't like it - nope, not one bit.

I have a Digital Atomic clock, with an outdoor temp sensor under the front cap it works great.

We also have this sensor in our '11 3400. I did some checking, and the best I can come up with is this is a second sensor tied to the t'stat that "averages" the temps in the rooms. Our main t'stat is on the wall next to the stairs, so that puts the two sensing areas only about 8 feet apart. I may move it one of these days. We do have to set the t'stat a bit higher to keep the main area warm, as everyone knows that heat rises, so the bedroom ceiling is a "warm" spot in the trailer, affecting the "average".
