Arrived Florida next to DC

Finally made it to Florida and now it’s off to Washington D.C. before we turn this train around and head back to the west coast. We spent 28th June to 2 July in Biloxi. Found the beaches clean and empty. There were more people in the clean up crews on the beach then beach goers. The beaches were clean and really terrible that the news media scared the 4th of July crowds away. The casinos were also some what empty. The 4th of July we found our selves in a very rural area in Florida but on a river. The RV park still had some space and I was tired so we decided to spend the night. The information we had on this park indicated they had it all. We soon found out the park directory was very wrong. I am not going into a lot of detail but I found out that you know you are a “redneck” when you can’t spell “WIFI”. That’s what the night manager asked me to do when I asked for the WIFI password which they didn’t have as the directory indicated. It still was a great stop, I turn my ball hat backwards, got a six pack of Bud and talked about NASCAR and found that I fit right in, so the neighbors invited us over for fireworks, actually it was just taken turns shooting a shotgun in the air but it was fun.

Currently we are really enjoying the Patrick AFB Famcamp RV park. It’s right on the inter-coastal waterway. I spend the day fishing and watching the manatees swim by. When it gets too hot I just walk into the water and soak till I cool off. I hate to leave Florida but there are many more stops before I get to DC.

Tony,
Check out the Mayport Naval Station campground. Try for reservations, otherwise try for Kings Bay Sub base. We really enjoyed our stay at Lunga Park, Quantico. Twelve miles from nowhere but so serene. Also only 1 hour or so from DC.

p.s., keep that ball cap turned until you get North of the Mason/Dixon.

Tony,
If you don't try Quantico which has a great view on the reservoir check out Ft. Meade, Md. Famcamp. Great sites but getting popular so harder to reserve.

Driving "solo" through the DC area is a challenge...cannot imagine towing in that area! Wish you a safe trip while there.

Have Reservation already at Andrews AFB. Seems close to all the sites and I understand there is a scuttle bus also. Any other info about Andrews would greatly be appreciated. My purpose for the DC trip is to visit my dad's final resting place in Arlington and pay my respect to to my shipmates listed on the "Wall".

Have you heard the news about problems at Arlington Cemitary? I hear something about it almost every morning on the news. Graves improperly marked etc. According to the news they spent alot of money to computerise everything and have not gotten it done.

Tony, I stayed at Andrews last year. Security is very tight and they check VERY closely with armament sniffing dogs, if you catch my drift. The Famcamp is in disrepair and not very big. The camp host was doing repairs to electrics. My sister and I had sites 1 & 2, which were the only ones big enough at the time. The camp was having water problems and they were at my site until 1030 pm replacing a leaky pipe underground. Wing commander spends more on golf courses (I believe there is now 4 on base), than the Famcamp and threatens to close it if anyone complains. They also allow long term residents and there were a few that worked on base and lived there. They have some sort of rotation program for the long termers. As far as location, it is great. We drove to Arlington Cemetary and started our touring from there as it was about the only place we could find to park. OH, By the way, you must use the commercial gate to get on base with your trailer. Depending on the time of day you can expect a delay. Enjoy the area, we did!!!!! (Hopefully the info about the park has changed, this is one time I wouldn't mind being wrong).
