No rear bumper

we just bought a 2014 Montana 3725RL I guess a little in a hurry and didn't notice it doesn't have a rear bumper.... Jim was hoping to pull his Harley on a trailer. Any ideas on how to do this with no bumper???

Thanks!

Montana's haven't had a rear bumper since day one I believe ... my 2000 2850RK didn't anyways. Some here have had a receiver hitch fabbed and installed on their unit's frame. You may as well hear it now ... any hitch will void your frame warranty if it matters to you. I chose to put one on anyhow as I double tow.

I don't want to void the warranty but maybe when it runs out that's what we will do. I looked at so many fivers online I guess I didn't notice the lack of a bumper... We drove 9 hours to buy ours and I hadn't decided between it and a Big Horn so we went through both of them while the dealer was waiting on us to pick one so they could start the PDI. I felt a little rushed. So far that plus a lack of the led lights along the awning and the bathroom sink sitting too far under the cabinet are our only complaints and all are workable so I feel we did good. Oh and the mattress stinks but I plan on getting a sleep number soon so that will be remedied. Sorry to ramble...

If you contact Lippert, the manufacturer of the frame on the Montanas and a lot of the other SOBs, you might be able to have them put one on your unit and it will not void the warranty. It has to be Lippert that installs it at one of their plants. You have to contact them and find out IF they are able to put one on yours. I worked with them while at the Fall Rally and unfortunately they could not put one on our unit! I know several that have had a hitch put on their Montes with the same model as ours BUT it was done AFTER the warranty was u[p! Give it a try and see if they can put one on your model. By the way, you wouldn't want to tow with a bumper hitch anyway. It is not designed for that purpose and mainly for just bicycles not Harleys even if they are on a trailer!

Have you filed a warranty claim on your frame for any reason? I would think that adding a hitch or altering one that was factory installed would void the frame warranty only. What could that possibly have to do with defective water heater, furnace, toilet, etc?

Our 2013 3402 has a hitch OEM. Flimsy but a hitch.

The generic hitches that are available to bolt to the rear frame are just not tough enough for me.

But I almost always double tow, had a hitch made at the local trailer hitch shop, one that only does hitch fab work. They asked how much tongue weight and total weight I wanted to pull. They welded up a hitch, it is attached with 8 bolts, NOT Welded on. My fresh water tank is in the rear and if I ever needed to get to it, just unbolt the hitch. I am 66'6" long with the 2nd trailer. Trailer and RZR are about 2,000lbs total.

You may want to research the sleep number as a replacement mattress. Altitude changes affect inflation. Just sayin'...

Jim, seems like most of the upper level trailers these days are without bumpers. I did over build a hitch on my last two trailer to tow, and or hual motorcycles never a problem over the last 20 years. Just do as jlb did and have someone that is good at what they do. I did as his person did and took the hitch back in to the frame work about three feet to distribute the wieght on the frame.

Annaoinga, you may want to check out the states that allow double tow.The entire eastern seaboard does not.The only state you can double tow in is Maryland.Tought you might need to know before you double tow. Steve1952.

In Calif. to do double tow the driver needs a Class A non commercial license. A written and driving test is needed.

Not very many CHP officers know this and I've seen a few rigs double tow in California. The problem is in the event of an accident the insurance company could state that the drive was not qualified to operated the vehicle when double towing, IF not properly licensed.

Just a watch out... Be careful
