F350 & a 3661 or 3791 Input Please

Hello All,

Currently have a 2015 F350 Diesel CC SRW Short Bed and would like to keep it and not move up to a dually if possible. We are looking at purchasing the 3661 or 3791 and are concerned about pin weights. Is anyone towing these units with a TV like mine and what is your towing experiences been like and how is your pin weights compared to the payload capacity and GVWR. We are planning to tow all over the country and not just to the local campground 50 miles away.

Thanks for your input.

This isn't the exact answer you were looking for but maybe my experience with my 3791RD will help.
When I bought my Montana I had a 2006 F250 4x4 CC short bed. That truck accommodated the pin weight but I was at the GVWR and GCWR limit and I needed air bags to level the ride. I since moved up to a 2016 F350 4x4 CC dually. The cargo weight and GVWR and GCWR on your 2015 F350 are sufficiently high enough for which ever RV you choose. You will have no problem with your TV. My only suggestions would be a slide hitch and Timbren's or air bags.

JABURKHOLDER,

Thanks for your reply, I do have the Demco 18K Hijacker Autoslider hitch so that is covered. If I go with one of these Monty's I will be checking into bags. Just concerned based on my calculations I will be near the max on the payload and GVWR. The Demco hitch weighs in at 250 lbs and I also have added a 50 gallon Titan midship fuel tank which replaces the stock tank. It adds 25 gallons of fuel capacity and approximately 200 lbs over stock. So considering pin weighs of 2700 - 2900 lbs and the weigh of driver and passenger I start to get real close to the max payload weight of 3970 for a 4x4 model. Then add 150 lbs for the washer combo and weigh of gear and i am right up there even though the TV is a 1 ton. So just wanted to check is others are running this configuration. We could upgrade to a dually but would like to avoid the cost if possible and still remain safe.

You're going to get all kinds of advice on this. Since you've a 350, you probably won't have that much an issue with the weight, but you certainly will be at your limits. My concern would be stability being that heavy and with SRW. That said, you'll probably be able to do OK, but I'd rather have DRW myself.

I have a 2015 Ram SWR diesel (stock tank) with a Pullrite slider towing a 2015 3100rl (no washer/dryer). When fully loaded (truck & fiver), I'm about 170lbs under my 11700 GVWR.
P.S - it's a 350 4x4

We had a loaded pin weight of 3740lbs on our 2015 3790RD when we were going on a two week trip. We do have an Onan 5500 LP generator and two six volt batteries in the front. Basement storage in the rear was quite full and the main basement storage had very little in it. Black and grey holding tanks were empty. Fresh water tank was full and we do not have a washer or dryer. I tow with a 3500 long box drw.

My '14 3150RL when loaded has close to 3,500lbs of pin weight. My '12 Ram 3500 DRW weighs close to 12,500lbs when hooked up to the trailer.

While you may not be at max, you are probably pushing it. I am on my 3rd DRW. Would not consider a SRW for my weight.

I have the 2016 F250 SRW w/6.7TD, the difference between it and the F350 SRW is the side tag plate that says 350, 1 extra leaf spring and a 4" bock vs a 2" block. SO I added Firestone ride rites to offset the block and spring. Spoke to inspector and was told that as long as the truck parts (tires/axles)are rated to the weight I needed there are no issues legally. I haul a 2016 3791RD and have no issues with towing or braking. The ride rites level out the ride nicely.

Also note I do not full time. I tow for 4-6 hours a trip and then sit for 3-9 days. If I was ready or able to full time I would likely go 350DRW for constant towing peace of mind.

Towing a 3790RD which is same as yours other than my fridge is propane electric....... Tow it with a 2015 Chevrolet CC SRW 2500hd Duramax with air bags that I run around ..... 15lbs of air in. Sits level and no issues... you should be fine with the Ford 350. The fact that there is so much storage in the rear of the 3790/91 allows you to put all the heavy stuff back there. I have two folding electric bikes in the big front compahrtment and a cuople folding chairs up in the battery compartment other wise its all out back behind the wheels. Without the air bags it sagged about the same as it did with the Cruiser 345 I had previously.

I have a 3820FK that I'm pulling with a 2016 F350 SRW 6.7. I stopped at a CAT scale yesterday for the first time. Our pin weight was 3620, and that is with stove and refrigerator in the front end. I know I can get that lower by moving some "stuff" further back in the trailer. My truck does not squat, and pulls very easy, but I was a little surprised that the GCW was 23140, which is just 360# below my GCWR.

PeteMorris and Simpson9508 would you guys be so kind as to look on the Tire and Loading Information sticker on the driver's door post and tell us what the cargo capacity is for your trucks?

My pin weight is less than 2900 lb. Have all of out stuff in the rear storage compartments. No washer/dryer. Did replace single 12v to 2 6v Trojan batteries. Tows level. Am adding Timbrens to avoid porpoising on bad roads...example southern Michigan.

If adding add'l fuel or washer/dryer or generator...I'd be over payload. Would need a dually....

I don't think there is anything you can do to prevent porpusing on route 23 South out of Detroit....... pretty sure its built right into the roadway in the sections both sides of Camping World. Even the big rigs are bouncing...

TLightning, sorry it has taken me so long to get back, but we have been out traveling, and I haven't been paying much attention to the site. The yellow sticker on my door says the combined weight of passengers and cargo should not exceed 3401 pounds. Hope that helps.
