Chevy Shake?

Anyone experience this problem. My buddy had me ride with him in his 2016 Sliverado. Get up to 60 plus and started shacking inside. Console seemed the worst. Did a web search and it appears to be a mystery. I thought he was joking till he drove me down the highway. It seems to have started in his at 19,000 miles! No bashing here, honest inquiry.

Shaking at anything over 55 is most likely a rear tire that has lost a weight. If not that I would look at the drive shaft that may have lost a weight or a carrier bearing. If they still have them? That's all I have???

X2 on rear tire balance. From working years ago in a tire shop, shake in the seat is rear balance, shake in the steering wheel is front balance, and intermittent vibration in the seat is driveline or axle - generally.

It appears they have tried that and it's a serious problem? None of the articles mentioned if tow loads made a difference.

Interesting. Since I've had Chevy, Nissan and now a Ford, I can say that they've all had vibrations at one time or another. Sometimes it's a wheel out of balance, sometimes ball joints, and probably once a drive shaft weight. Not that I've ever just lived with it, but these are trucks after all, and this kind of comes with the territory IMHO.

I've got 96K on the truck and have towed Monty about 25K with it. Have never had any vibration. Changed from original OEM Bridgestones last summer to Michelins with same great results. Maybe I've just been lucky.

You didn't say if two or four wheel drive. I had a front wheel bearing fail on a two wheel drive 1/2 ton Chevy some years ago, that caused a shake. He also might take it to a good tire shop and have them check it out, as I've had better luck with these kinds of things at those shops, instead of dealers.

This is my second Ford diesel and second RV. With both trucks I have had a vibration but only when starting from standing start...they called it shudder. The only "fix" from dealer was to start out in 4 wh dr. until rolling good and then go to 2 wh dr. But nothing like this problem at higher speed. Other Ford owners have had what they call "death wobble" I think they call it. not sure if it is still occurring on these newer units though.

The death wobble is a violent 6 inch side to side shackling of the front wheels. I think it usually comes after the front is altered from lifting the truck and putting on large tires. I had the rear end vibration in my 08 F250. Ford put on a longer carirer bearing bracket. That made it worse. The original one was the shortest Ford had so I cut it down made it shorter and that fixed the problem.
The 1500 Chevy is a great truck. I can't believe they can't find the problem and fix it.

Hi

You don’t say what model 4X4, extend cab, Quad Cab, 6 or 8 ft bed, Duramax or gas engine.

Some of the models have an Aluminum drive shaft that can be damaged by road hazard.

At 19,000 miles it is a dealer problem.

GM is good about correcting the problem and if they can’t the service manager needs to write a letter to GM and they will refund your money and take the truck back. They did this for us on a 2012 Cruse that GM couldn’t fix after sending three different factory repair teams to fix the shake.

I have in the past had all 3 US brands and some US brands that don’t exist any longer and because of the way GM handled this problem I don’t plan on ever owning any other brand of vehicle.

Both Chevy and Ford are having the same vibration issues. '15/'16 Chevy and '13 and up Ford. Ford SRW 4x4 short bed. Chevy not sure, just they both are fighting the same vibration.

Here is a posting on a different forum you might read.

I had that same shudder when hooked up. Disappeared forever after I installed airbags. Rear drop with the fiver stressed the driveshaft assembly by changing the angle. Has never happened again.

You are right 1retired06, I had air bags installed on this truck I have now but have only gotten to go on one trip since May. Got bad hail and just got truck out yesterday. Had not noticed any shudder on that trip but I'll really be watching for shudder on next trip. Hope its gone.

Not meaning to steal this thread but others may be having the same problem and maybe this can help them.

I had this same experience with a Tahoe. I took it to my local tire shop and asked for a balance. They did it but afterwards the guy came out and told me my tires were bad. I though he was full of crap surely they were just out of balance since they looked fine. I had him swap the ties from side to side and the shake changed sides with it. By shake I mean the entire cab but the main intensity went to the other side. It was indeed a bad tire. I replaced the lot and the shaking went away. My 2 cents.

Different vibration. Shudder on take off is easy to fix, change drive line angle. The problem OP mentions is vibration at road speed, 45-70 and both Ford and Chevy are chasing the vibration. Read the link I posted earlier.
