Dash-Cam update

I know, I am posting too much! That said , I mentioned in a post my F450 was vandalized last week. I ordered and installed my dash-cam. It's marketed by Kim Komando, who's radio show I respect. I did tons if research. It came a few days ago. It's really simple to set up. I have cameras pointed out front window. It even hooks into my rearview safety monitor. I can also turn it on, when parked, while away from the truck and RV. I just aim one camera at my door, the other out windshield. It's memory card, saves several hours and worked in my Mac to save video on hard drive. Otherwise it just records over non saved video. Not trying to sell these things, just report my experience. The only real worry I have, are the 115 degree days we get all summer. Not sure it will survive? Also I put stickers on the truck, warning people they are being filmed, and so far so good ! Here is a link.

Some times you people just PO me to no end. As most of you know, I'm a surveillance camera nut and now you've found another camera setup I've got to go out and buy. Thanks a lot. Really, I mean it, Thanks a bunch. I've been looking for something like this and at $149 that not a bad price at all.

Artemus, besides this being used as a security camera, couldn't it be used as another backup camera? It looks like it came with two lenses. I replaced my tailgate with the diamond plate V-shape tool box and in the process lost my factory backup camera. I have two small wireless exterior cameras I used to have at our stick house. I was going to set them up under the Monte when parked for longer periods of time, but depending on where my truck would be parked this could serve that purpose also.

Dash cams were being pushed at the GS Rally in Atlanta and a defense against Red Light Cameras and to give support evidence in the event of an accident. Guess they're becoming almost common place across the Big Pond.

Artemus - Check the operating specs for the maximum operating temperature. If the outside temp gets to 100-110 or so, just add 20-30 degrees because of where the camera sits. Hopefully the Op Temp is above that temp. I wish they had posted the spec sheet to review prior to purchase, but since you not have the unit, hopefully you have the spec sheet. Hopefully they have the minmum operating temp, too.

I wouldn't worry about the frequency of postings since your topics are pretty good - informative and helpful. We kinda like that. If we didn't like them we wouldn't be reading or commenting on them. That said, I, for one, am looking forward to your next posts.

Art, sadly the book does not offer that information. I have sent email to manufacturer. Will report back.

Can't the thief just steal the dash cam too?

It might surprise you folks to realize how stupid most thieves are. We had a career criminal neighbor break into one of our sheds. I was watching him from 1300 miles away and the sheriff dept. was on their way. He went merrily working away loading his pickup with our stuff. I moved the camera to get his plate number and the camera must have made some noise, because he jumped up, looked at the camera, jumped in his truck and flew out of my drive. Only to be met by the deputy as he hit the gravel road. Stealing the camera didn't cross his mind. In this case it wouldn't have mattered as it was recording and had already sent me video. I'll bet most criminal would be just like him though and wouldn't give a thought to stealing the evidence.
