Lippert auto level

So after many months of not having moved Monty we are preparing for our trip back north.

The water system has been checked out and santitized, shackles lubed, tires checked, electrical system OK, hitch re-installed in the truck.....

I backed into Monty and hooked up, pushed all of the appropriate buttons on the level up system and everything worked. I than did the pull test and it stayed connected. Disconnected and pulled forward but not far enough. When I pushed the auto level button I forgot that the first thing is that the nose drops as part of the auto leveling system.

At that point I remembered that somewhere in the instructions it does say to pull far enough forward before activating the auto level. Just as I remembered that, CLUNK, as Monty rested on the truck cover rails at the same time as I shut the system down. Turned it back on, set it to manual and raised the front end. NO DAMAGE, pulled the truck forward, far enough and proceeded with the rest of the process.

Now we can start loading stuff to carry home, get the house on the market, and hopefully enjoy the experience of regularly preparing Monty (and me) for future travels.

Since 2004 I have always had my bedsaver. Folks shake their heads and say not necessary if you hitch/unhitch correctly. It has saved me twice now!!

A bed saver would not have helped in Dicks case. He had pulled forward beyond that.

At least coming down with the landing gear wouldn't be the sudden drop from the hitch, but still not something you want to do every day. It's all you fault for putting the Level-Up System on. If you were using the original electric jacks (sloooooooooooow) you would of had plenty of time to catch your error.

As Ron mentioned, my mistake was not pulling out far enough from the trailer after I unhooked. I didn't drop the trailer as it did stay hooked when I did the pull test. With lippert's system it will adjust the front height before completing the auto level. That's why the instructions specifically mention that the truck bed should be clear of the trailer before activating the system. Of course as smart as I am (NOT) I didn't bother to read all of the instructions. Must be the CRS syndrome.

It's amazed me, since we went from the TT to serious RVing the things I've had to learn the hard way. You'd think I would have known better normally means "it cost me a bunch". Glad you didn't suffer any damage.

I was told that you can hit any button on the LU controller when it is in auto level mode and it will stop. Just an FYI...

Your right except I was not at the controller but more toward the truck when I realized what was happening. Next time will be better as I will follow the instructions as printed not whta I remember or don't.
