Second Battery Installation Problem ASAP
Want to install a 2nd battery in my Montana 2955RL 5ver. The one in it is in front storage in box vented to outside. Is there a way to tee a connection from a new battery box hose into first hose near outlet? Would rather do this than cut a new hole. I cannot find a tee for this purpose, so I guess I must make one somehow. Need ASAP as heading to federal campground next week and must be self contained.

Jim-- I haven't tried this since I still have a single battery in my 2980 but have you thought about using a PVC T-fitting? If you have another box and the vent hose, I would think you could use a PVC fitting and put the vent hose over the T-fitting and secure it with some radiator clamps or similiar clamps. Hopefully, someone else will be along and come up with other ideas also! Keep us informed as to what you come up with and how you do the modification!

Excellent idea. Unless someone else has something better, this is my plan. Thanks a million. Anyone know where I can get black box with the opening for the hose? I have found white, but no black.

How about using a hole saw to cut an opening into the black box and gluing a PVC pipe or fitting into the hole to make the spigot?

Don't forget about the hole in the bottom of the battery box, that goes through the metal floor of the compartment.

smfdva,
We have two batteries in two separate boxes. They simply vented one hose directly to the outside hole and then inside they cut a hole in the side of that hose and inserted the other hose directly into it. To keep it in place they simply taped it. Not the most elegant process but it works great. I've refreshed the tape a couple of times.

I have posted about this several times, but it seems relelant again so:
I installed two golf cart (6 volt) batteries in my 2955 RL. I used a BlueSea battery box in which those two batteries exactly fit:
I was able to use the existing vent as well as the existing hole in the bottom of the compartment. Here are some notes (DOC file):

I have a question on this topic...???? What if a person used the GEL AGM batteries such as the Intimidator 100 amp by DEKA?? Would you still need a vent? These are sealed batteries.....JB

Deadeye,
As I understand it the AGM type sealed battery units do NOT need to be vented. They don't even need a box. And from what I'ver read they can be installed upside down! I wouldn't ever do that but guess one could!
