Kayak Transport

I just bought a 12' Hobie Kayak for fishing. Is there any way of carrying on top of a 3500 Ram Mega Cab without a front support. Looking to carry two bikes up there as well (road bikes - light).

Not a problem carrying it on top of a Mega Cab unless you are also towing a 5th wheel then you will have to carry it to far forward and will need a front support. What I did was to put a receiver hitch on the front bumper in the upright position to hold my "goal post".

Which goal post did you buy? I purchased the Yakima JayLow system with the Q Towers.

Capt. Kidd - took your advice. Hidden hitch in front, Thule Goalpost and Thule racks. Then I added the Rocky Mount bike racks. Now I can take my kayak, two bikes and the fifth wheel. Thanks for the advice. By the way, the Yakima racks are very sketchy on the Ram Mega Cab. Yakima said it would only catch the edge. Visions on kayak and bikes bouncing off the Montana before hitting the road danced in my head. As an added advantage, I can drive into my garage with the kayak on top.

I have ordered a USRack Fifth Wheel rack. I plan to carry a 10ft Porta Bote along with the seats for it. On their web site they show bikes and kayaks up there. My rack should be here in about 2 weeks.

I've been looking at this same USA Fith Wheel rack. Can you please post your thoughts and pics when you install.
Thanks
Steve

I had a 14' kayak and the only way I could carry it, when also pulling the FW, was with a front hitch receiver and a Darby Extend-a-Truck in the vertical position.

I will do my best to add pictures once I get the rack installed. It should be another two weeks before I get it. Since I have never added pictures to this forum I will do my best but if you are in a hurry I would be happy to email them to you. Just PM me and we can connect. I have looked at numerous options to carry it and I really did not want a post out in front of me supporting a roof mounted rack.
