DANGER! DANGER!Will Robinson!
There is a new email scam going around that I just got hit with. I received an email from Costco wholesale telling me that my address was wrong and that they would cancel my order within 7 days and charge a 21% restocking charge. Example of text (" Unfortunately the delivery of your order COS-0020482201 was cancelled since the specified address of the recipient was not correct. You are recommended to complete this form and send it back with your reply to us.
Please do this within the period of one week - if we dont get your timely reply you will be paid your money back less 21% since your order was booked for Christmas.") If you open the attached PDF file it downloads a Malware file to your computer. Since I received two of these emails and neither senders address had Costco on it I checked on google for Costco scams. I found many links but the one I read was this one link which has an exact example of one of my emails. I haven't ordered anything from either store so I was suspicious from the start. I hope this helps keep a MOCer from getting hit with this scam... Merry Christmas to all. Dave and Betsy

I have received a lot of those the last month or so including USPS, FedEx, a couple stores, several about my lottery winnings, and one yesterday from my nephew stranded in Europe after having been mugged.
But I was expecting nothing from USPS or FedEx, had bought nothing from those stores, foreign lottery really?, and my nephew has never been to Europe. All those go to spam folder, normally without even reading. Will read one occasionally just for the humor.

I got an automated call last week stating that my MasterCard Debit Card had been lost and it was URGENT that I call 1-800-123-XXXX. Sorry...I never had such a card and certainly did not call them!

WOW!! Between the email scams and the hacked stores, like Target, almost makes you want to use cash again. We need to start pushing our government to get the banks to switch over to the cards the rest of the world is using, that don't have a magnetic strip, and have almost eliminated fraud. Hard to believe the USA is always last with technology anymore.

Just heard on the news that the scammers are cashing in on the Target hacking, so be careful if you get any emails indicating that you've had your Target identity stolen.

We too received one of those emails, but ours was from Walmart. We didn't order anything, so I didn't open it, just deleted it.
If I don't recognize the email, I always delete them. Better safe than sorry....

We got one, referencing an Amazon account. We do deal with Amazon, but nothing recently.

I also got a very realistic looking Amazon order notice with attachment. We do use Amazon and I thought someone had ordered under my name but when u look at who the email was sent to at least 10 other people with similar email address. That's a tell all. Deleted. Came again on say 2. Deleted again.

If you're fortunate enough to use a Gmail or Hotmail (now Outlook) account, these sorts of scams are usually caught in the spam filter, where they should be deleted without opening.
If you're really curious, before opening the email, see if you can look at the email header, invariably it won't be from who it claims to be - a dead give away to a scam.
Lastly, about two years I go I kept track of the amounts of moneys that had been supposedly arranged for me by the various scammers throughout the world, mostly from China. In the course of six months it amounted to over 2 billion dollars!
When in doubt, don't.
