HWH Percolating

I'm on the road full time for a while now, and just recently my HWH has started making a percolating sound when in electric mode. I've never run it dry and it stops as soon as I turn off the power. The 5er is new, had it since March with very little use until now. I've heard some talk about air pockets and purging, but can't locate that thread now. Anyone know of a fix or recognize these symptoms??

Thanks, Larry

Larry, If there is water in the tank, then what you hear is the water heating around the elect. element. When I fill my tank the first time after it has been drained I leave all the valves closed until I am sure the water heater tank is full. This is what a service tech said. This leaves a air pocket in the top of the tank for expansion and makes it quieter.

Depending on the hardness of the water, deposits will build up on the heating element and make noise when heat is applied. Not something to worry about, it happens with your home unit also. Home units are usually located where you don't regularly hear it, however.
