3791 tow vehicle

Hello All,

My wife and I bought our first Montana. It is a 2017 3791RD. We will take delivery sometime on the spring. I currently have a Duramax powered 2015 Chevrolet 2500. Does anyone here pull that trailer with the same truck? If you do, can you tell me how it does?

I am contemplating selling it and buying a 2013-2016 Chevrolet or GMC 3500. We would replace it with the single wheel rear end. It is going to be my wife's daily driver for a couple weeks at a time when I am away for work. She doesn't want to drive a dually.

Thanks for the information.

That is a lot of fifth wheel for a SRW 2500 you should have a 3500 DRW to tow it so you don't over load you TV every thing you put in it adds up quicker then you think!

Your 2500 truck can pull your trailer but a 3500 dually would be much much better. In 2003 we bought a SOB 5th wheel. While the truck (2500 Chevy Duramax) could handle the trailer pulling wise it had to much side to side sway in windy conditions and when passing other high profile vehicles in the opposite direction. In 2005 we got a Chevy 3500 DRW truck and it was night and day. Since then all of my trucks have been DRW.

I towed our 2015 3790RD for two years with a 2015 Chevy CC srw no issues at all, I did install firestone air bags (didn't need too) but that was because I didn't like the way it sat with the trailer on it. My dealer called and wanted my 2015 chevy duramax and offered me a smoking deal on a 2017 denali 3500 srw. I did the trade as I dropped the mileage 50k to a new truck, got the new HP & torque increases and the supposed increase in cargo capacity the 3500 has over the 2500. Thing is the 3500 squatted more than the 2500 which I suspect is due in part to the spring pack having less springs in the 3500 in them than the 2500 has, however the 3500 has the two helper springs that pick up the weight once it is squatting. Only real difference I feel is the 3500 rides better than the 2500 did when not loaded. Other than that natta..... Put on 30k plus miles on the 2500 with the 3790 on behind so I wouldn't worry about it at all unless you are like me wanting the new HP & Torque of the new engine. The other nice thing over the 2015 is the steering control. If you don't have HP itis then stick with what ya got.... perhaps some air bags if you don't like the slight squat. I'm putting them in the 3500 as well for squat reasons.
BTW you don't need a dually unless that is something you personally want. The pin weight on the RD's is dependent upon how you load the rear storage vs front storage.... and thus you can keep it right around the factory weight claims or just under without too much trouble at all....
