Hot Water Tank and Winterization

I got done winterizing last week and noticed that there was a small amount of water left in the bottom of the tank. I could feel it with my finger through the hole where the anode rod goes. Do you try to to somehow remove this water or just let it freeze. Also when your winterization is done you reinstall the anode rod or just leave it open till the spring?

I leave the water in the tank or you can rig up a hose and suction it out with a wet/dry vac. I put the anode back in but do not tighten it up just keeps the possibility of critters or bugs from getting in the tank!

X2 with Rondo. Don't need any cooked bugs or rodents trying to come thru the hot water lines.

Same here. I just leave that small amount in the bottom. Never been a problem (yet).

Get one of those flush wands and give it a good rinse in the spring

usually by time it does freeze the water has evaporated and if it does turn to ice,not enough in there to expand to hurt anything. I leave the anode out for a week or so to get air in there to help it dry out and then replace it.

For me, at the end of filling all lines with pink stuff, I open the HWH bypass valve until pink stuff comes out the anode hole. I feel like there must be fresh in that line somewhere, a lot of water comes out before the pink stuff.
