Does anybody out there leave there fireplace running all night? We have a 2007 Big Sky 3400 and would like to leave it on at night but was a little leary.

We do it all the time. Cheaper to run then the furnace. We'll set the furnace to come on at 65. That way if the fireplace doesn't keep up the furnace will supplement it. It also adds heat to the belly. Jim

Sanford, Although a great idea, the electric fireplace, we have never left ours on while sleeping. In earlier posts there were problems with the electrical connections burning together. I did not want to take the chance. If you do, please remove fireplace from wall and check all the connections on top to be sure they are tight. Safety first!!! I knw some will say they have never had a problem, BUT, it only takes one time to ruin a great trailer......

Nope, we just don't feel comfortable leaving ours to run while we sleep.

Due to all the earlier posts re electrical problems, we have never felt comfortable leaving ours on at night, or even when we leave the trailer for short periods.

We used to run our unit all night. Then the stories about poor workmanship and pictures to go with it concerned us. I took our unit apart and went over it with a fine tooth comb, found all connections clean and tight so we do run it all night with confidence and haven't had any problems on a low setting just to keep the overnight nip in the air down a bit.

Now we only run it when we have guests, but we have confidence it will do fine. However we haven't camped in continuous freezing cold climates for days on end and this might make a difference. I'll rely on my nose to detect it. According to DW my nose works better than smoke detectors and I might have to agree with her.

Without the furnace fan running, I don't think the belly will get any heat...just convection, and that would nto be enough to count.
Rig a switch to the furnace control board, then you can circulate the living space area heat to the belly.

We have run ours all night when it is really, really cold. Usually, though, on cold nights - down in the 30s - we set our furnace at around 62 and stay comfy.

Yep have done it for the past 7.5 years in my 3400RL - not on a nightly basis, but frequent enough to feel comfortable doing it.

We've had our rig for almost 10 years. We've run (and continue to run) the fireplace day and night when necessary. And even though we've had a couple of issues with the thing we have no fear of running it while we sleep. We even leave it on when we go out of the trailer if it is really cold. We've had it apart several times and feel comfortable with what we've seen. We think it is as safe as any other system in the RV that might cause a fire.

But you must do whatever YOU feel comfortable with. So travel safely and Happy Trails! Dennis

Rondo,
As we know everything is relative.... So you are correct... Once temps get into the 40s (and that is the PLUS variety) I start bundling up big time. In the 60s he fireplace comes on and stays on as long as it stays in the 60s. Heck we even turn the furnace on when it gets down to 70!

Just in case you can't tell we are "fair weather" campers. Heck that is why there are wheels on these things. That is so we can hookup and go find nice weather!

But we do feel safe using the various appliances in our rig. And that includes running the fireplace at night (when it is cold). Dennis
