Still have a ton of cassette tapes

My wife and I have always enjoyed listening to books on tape when we travel. Though our 2008 Ford truck did not have a tape deck, it did have an "aux in" plug that accepted a 1/8" stereo plug from a walkman tape player. Using that allowed us to play cassettes. Our 2016 Ford truck does not have the "aux in" plug, only two USB ports, an SD slot (for the navigation card, and three "audio/visual in" ports.
Does anyone know of a way to use the walkman tape player through the vehicle audio system these days? Looks like we may be stuck with a ton of cassettes that have finally met their match.
I did buy a system that claims to convert cassettes to digital so they can be burned to cd but that takes a long time.

You can have a separate deck installed in the truck, most likely an old deck.. Or, use a player to upload the tapes to the computer, then download the tapes from the computer to a smart phone and use the truck's radio via Bluetooth to play in truck...another option is to buy a new radio and bridge it to your speakers....a new radio with an aux input...

Well this topic hasn't died with me, just simmering. However, after some study and digging I found a cable with the two "audio/visual" connectors (white and red RCA jacks) on one end and a sterio 1/8" plug on the other. The 1/8" plug fits into the Sony Walkman cassette player and the RCA audio jacks fit into the L & R audio plugs inside the dash top compartment. The sound from the tape player is transferred to the Ford sterio system and will play just like it was a cd. The volumn works via the truck volumn control.

Problem solved!

If anyone needs one of these patch cords search for:
3.5mm AUX Stereo to 2 RCA Male Audio Y Cable Adapter Cord

That is a good solution; I didn't know the truck had RCA input jacks. You could have also purchased a "FM converter". It would take an input from your tape player and output the audio as an FM signal with several frequency choices. You listen on your FM radio. The drawback is that big cities don't have a lot of free FM frequencies so interference is likely; it works great away from big cities.

Scott, I never thought of that, didn't even know they existed. Thanks.
I see you have a 2014 F350. My 2016 has a flip up lid centered on the top of the dash. In that compartment is a 12v receptical, two USB ports, an SD card slot and the three RCA jacks (red, white & yellow). Does you '14 have that? This is the first vehicle I've ever had with the RCA jacks.

That sounds cool but I'm almost certain I do not have that. I wonder what the SD card slot is for? Mine is the XLT version with Sync and a USB port on the dash below the radio, but I do not have the fancy navigation system with the LCD screen.

Your cable solution is superior to the FM transmitter. We only use that when there is not an audio in jack (or your RCA jacks).

Ford did away with the flip up compartment on top of the dash in 2017. 2016 was the last year for it. The SD slot is for the maps used by the GPS system in models up to 2016. I am not sure what is used in 2017 and newer.

That explains why I don't have it; no GPS system. Thanks

Yes, the SD slot is for the maps data for the nav system. I have two other Ford vehicles with SD slots but w/o nav system. I have recorded music to a card, inserted it into the slot and played that music through the vehicle sterio system. You can get 20 - 30 albums of 'good music' onto a 32 Gig SD card and listen for hours without commercials. I suspect I could do the same in the truck, especially since I don't use the nav system when hauling the Monty. I use my real big rig GPS for that

I drive on too many rough roads for the turntable to work well for us.

If you find a hitch that eliminates all chucking and keep your speed under 50 MPG teh needle does not skip as much.

Cassettes and 8-tracks

When I hear certain songs nowadays I still remember where the track change happened. My middle son has become a vinyl record chaser in recent years and he transfers the vinyl to digital and sends me a link to download the file. I need to see if he can fix me up with Emerson Lake and Palmer Tarkus with pauses in the right spot for the 8-track changes!
