The lazy susan is gone!

Last week, Steve pulled out the lazy susan and put shelves/baskets in its place. Alas, I fear I must now renounce my claim to being the only MOC member (possibly?) who actually used the lazy susan!

Hey sport---we use ours and actually find it usefull. I bought some high density foam and made an insert for ours with "cut-out" pockets in it to hold stuff like spice bottles, Tobasco (& other hot sauces), olive oil, salt & perrper on the bottom and cut-outs for coffee mugs, glass glasses on the top. Nothing moves and yet to have anything break. The foam really holds stuff snug.

We use ours. Actualy the wife does. Some things I just stay away from. Most of the stuff she has stored there seem to stay OK.

I stand corrected! I have no idea why I suddenly decided it was time for a change ... guess I thought Steve didn't have enough to do!

Vicki, you won't regret your decision. I love being able to store my pots and pans in that larger cabinet, which in our model is accessible on both sides of the sink. I've always been glad I remodeled that area.

I asked Ann if she wanted to remove it but so far she is happy with it. I put one of the wire shelves in the top cupboard and she uses it for extra storage. The 3670 seems to have enough space for us now that we have the extra space under the stove and frig.

My wife uses ours too. We wrap seran wrap around them before traveling and that keeps everything in place. I hold the seran wrap through one door and Lisa spins the lazy susan around about twice from the other side.

We took ours out immediately after taking delivery. The placement was all wrong, instead of being in the front when you open the doors (either side), it should have been back in the corner that's hard to get to. Anyway, I pulled the whole thing out, put in a plywood shelf and trimmed the edges with oak veneer to make it all match. We use cork sheeting with a releasable adhesive to line all our shelves.

Bill,
Hello, where does one purchase cork sheeting with releasable adhesive? Sounds like a great item for shelving.

Thanks!

I have a post under Improvements regarding removing the lazy Susan. While using the thick foam and other solutions sound interesting, I really needed to have a place for pots and pans and baking pans, a few electric appliances, etc. Like Bill Hill, hubby built a plywood shelf for the area, trimmed the edges with oak, forming a lip so things couldn't slide off, and we use that good ol' standby, non-slip. I also tacked a thank you on the end of the post - to all of you who are willing to share your ideas, improvements and modifications. We've made several based on forum information and couldn't be happier with the results. You're a great group of people!

We took ours out too. Very awkward to get at let alone use. Instead we have a good size plastic bag lined trash can in its place. And where the the trash can was (lower shelf of pantry) we put in same size plastic bin w/cover for dry dog food. Works great, easy to get at. What I would like to see is a little more space for spices. I seem to collect a lot .

We use ours though we moved it. In the 3400 it is a single not double. We moved it to the other end of the island. Trash can fits where it was and is accessible on boths sides of island. Turntable is fully accessible on dining room side and partially accessible on kitchen side. All our cleaning supplies are there.

Ours was rather easily accessible, with doors on both sides of the peninsula, but it was more a matter of how much could we store in there without the lazy susan compared to storage with it in place. We never had any trouble with things falling off the lazy susan, like others have had, and never had to do anything special to keep things in place, so that wasn't the reason for removing it. It was really simple to take out (about two minutes).

We have the lazy susan in our 2000 Montana. However, my wife just pushes stuff onto it and it is really "lazy" now. You can't even turn it because it is stuffed full. I think I like the idea of shelves or such that will hold the "stuff" and not allow it to fall down.
