Welcome JH to the MOC Family.

Here is a link to a great PDI (PreDelivery Inspection)

Copy it and take it along as you will want to use it prior to taking delivery of your new Monty. Allow yourself plenty of time to do a thoruogh PDI and don't sign any final documents until all problems you may find have been corrected.

Be sure and check the wheel alignment. We have had some problems and wished we had checked it when we got it. We have been living in our 2004 for over a year and that is the only problem we have had.

JH, Congratulations on a great purchase. Just be sure and check the air pressure before you tow.

Two weeks ago when I picked up are 06 2955RL, I was assured the tires were all at 80 PSI when we did the walk around. I drove it 60 miles home, handled like an absolute dream behind my 05 F350 4x4 CC LB V10 and when I checked the tires the next day, 3 at 78 pounds , slide side front was only 18 pounds, and did not look that low in PSI. I fired up my compressor and took it to 80 PSI.
Four days later it was down to 30 PSI so I have a slow leak in the tire or the rim, but it does show the air pressure was not checked just before I picked up the unit. Have fun picking up the new unit. My wife and our just love ours and we have been going out and having a glass of wine out in the Montana and the more time we spend in it , the more we like it.

Montanas are absolutely beautiful and your poor old Wilderness will pale in comparison.
Our last Fiver was a 95 Kit Companion and it was a reliable old cheapey but still a cheapy.

So long for now and tell us more about the unit when you get it home, Don.

We have a 05 2980RL and just love it. The main problem area was the remote heater control, piece of junk. Finally got it replace with a CCC unit and that works great, just remember to turn it off when you pack up and leave. Got to our next site and it was nice and warm inside. Guess what I forgot to do?

The other problem is the so called stereo system. I finally switched the back speaker wires and tied them into the wires that go to the speakers above the unit and the hiss went away. That is also a piece of junk.

Some one asked about access when the unit is closed. You can get into the refrigerator but not the kitchen cabinets, so plan ahead if you are going to stop and have lunch.

We removed the screws from the table and turned it 90 deg. also left two chairs at home. With the table turned you can get past it to access the back of the unit with out having to climb over it. You can use the couch when closed but not the back chairs.

When closed I can get to the refrigerator, bathroom and bed, what more do you need?
Happy Thanksgiving to all...

Congratulations and welcome aboard! The 2980RL is a good model. Our first Montana was a 2001 2880RL, predecessor to the 2980. We loved that model.

We have a 2980 and to make more room with the slides in, we turned the table 90 degrees and took 2 of the chairs out. Much, much better. There is only 2 of us, so we didn't need the chairs.

We have had our 2980 since July, 2004 and just love it. It is now parked in the back yard waiting for us to hook up after Christmas to head for AZ. Those of you who rotated the table 2 questions. Enough room to sit at ends of table? Any problems with walking on slide when it is in? We were advised that it is best not to walk on slide when in. Your thoughts.

We can't get to the ends of the table for sitting when it is turned but we never put the screws back in the base so we just either sit at the same side of the table or turn it after the slides are out.

There is a recent thread about walking with the slide out. I was not concerned about it until I read that thread now I try and avoid putting a lot of weight on it when going to the rear of the Monti.

I am sure you will enjoy the 2980 with that big back window. Our first trip after we got it was in February of last year and we backed up to a frozen "Banks Lake" and turned the rear chair around and enjoyed the scenery.

I was wondering where the water pump is on the 2980rl I am not where I can look and just got the trailer and want to install a winterizing kit at the pump. I have had my 2980 for 2 months and have got to use it once and sure like it. Lots of room compared to the Arctic Fox 25R I had. Next trip will be end of January to Cathedral City, Quartzsite and Las Vegas. Should get to enjoy it more.

I can sit one person at the end closest to the sofa my wife, I just moved the table closer to the small window, and that allows me to use the long end of the table for another. ( ME ) HA.
and the pump is under the counter behind the heater take the inspection cover off in the gally area.

The water pump on our 2005, 2980RL is under the shower. You can access it by removing the 4 screws on the back panel of the basement on the right side. The hose and valve for winterizing it is also there. I plan on extending it under the inside step and have the grill at the bottom riser snap out so I can winterize from inside. Maybe next year. If you are winterizing the unit don't forget to remove the other basement wall panel on the other side and shut the hot water tank bypass valve so you don't pump all the pink stuff into the hot water tank.

Hope this answers your question.

We have the 2004 2980RL and the water pump is in the kitchen cabinet. You can access it by taking of the air intake by the door. They may have moved it in 2005???

The waterpump in our 2006 2980RL is the same as ridriver, right behind the furnace. Across the trailer from the Hot Water Tank. Take out a few screws and easy to get at.
