New Mexico seems serious about camp fees!

You never know all the details on something like this, but this still seems like pretty drastic action.

If I am ever in New Mexico, I will gladly pay my camping fee.

If I was a Cop and you put your hands in your pocket and you moved wrong... I would put holes in you as well. Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. If the story is being told right.

I was a cop,, for ten years in Louisiana. There are "other ways" to make people comply!

I think that the Ranger, Park Official, or BLM agent, or what ever they call themselves took drastic measures, the officer was a rookie. 3 years and he shoots another person, I have seen these so called Rangers, BLM, or Park Ppolice, they all have an attitudes, and are all chesty, when confronted with a situation. I believe the biggest abuser of all enforcement departments is the BLM Officer, next is the Park Police, and the State Park Rainger is last it takes them a long time to get them excited.
I have seen, Not hear say eather, my son buy a ticket for his park camp site from the automated machine and put the recipt on the dash as directed in the instructions when purchased, and being printed on heat sencitive paper, in a day the paper is all black from the sun beating on it making it worthless to read from being on the dash. the BLM Ranger was rude and unhearing. the next time my son put it in the glove compartment so that wouldn't happen again, and the Ranger blasted him for that too for not having it displayed as directed.
The officer that shot this person should be procicuted for his actions. and other officers need more intence training for situations as this, which might prevent this ever happining again.

I think it best not to judge until all the facts are known.

Having been a campground manager at big Forest Service campground I can say that there is surely more to this story. My prayers are also with the ranger who I'm guessing is sick about shooting someone for whatever reason.

I agree with Pam. I am sure there is no one that feels worse than the Ranger. I have also witnessed some "chesty" park rangers, but if I apologize and smile and comply, they soften up. I have also witnessed some pretty rude, indignant campers who seem to thrive on making a scene. Of course, they don't carry guns...

As native New Mexican's (and although hispanic I, and my wife look like anglo's as well)there has to be more to this. $14 for a life -- I'm sorry but that Ranger owes some time to society in the Santa Fe Confinement Facility (the state Prison!). He showed no mercy to the camper -- let me be on that jury - I'll show the same mercy!!!
