Black tank overflow
Our friends spent the night in Monte and not realizing the toilet flapper stuck open. The black tank filled up and overflowed into the coach. I don’t know how long it was running but we turned off the water, drained black tank and are in the process of wet vacuuming. Not to mention it’s poring rain out with potential for severe weather.
If there’s a bright spot, Monte is in our driveway.
What other suggestions can you make?

After this occurring you may watch to make sure the tank did not crack along the top seams. I had one overfill and the top of the tak failed. You will find that the black water will slosh out of the tank onto the coroplast covering while driving or on incline when tank is partially full. I hope this did not occur as it is a mess! Good luck.

Fans and damp rid once the basic cleanup is done.

If I understand you correctly, the toilet flapper did not close completely, allowing water to continue to flow into the toilet and black tank. First and foremost after cleanup and drying out, is to find out why the flapper did not close and remedy that, or to replace the toilet. What toilet brand and model is it?

Damp rid for that mess will take forever and probably not do that good a job. After you've vac'd up as much as you can, try to disinfect the area thoroughly then towel dry as best you can. Then, if you don't already have one, get a dehumidifier and let it run continually until humidity level in the coach is around 40%. Set it on a counter and let it drain into the sink. You should be good to go. Remember, get it disinfected and as dry as you can to prevent black mold and wood rot.

Dick, I'd be calling the insurance company first, then call Service Master and see if they can take care of the problem of water and disinfecting. They do houses and offices, I don't know why they couldn't do their magic on a Montana as well. Sorry this happened and if I was closer, I'd be there to help out.

I overflowed the tank a couple of times while backwashing over a few years and eventually the tank split open on top. Hope this doesn't happen to you. Although, with the backwash running to overflow it, I would guess there would be more pressure on the tank than just water running in from above, so you may be okay.

Wet vac sucked up a bunch. Dehumidifier running and a/c. May not be as bad as I thought. The flapper stayed closed so only overflow of fresh water from bowl came out. I don’t know why the water didn’t stop.

No better answer than what has been stated … a shining example of why NO ONE uses my fiver. Good intentions and best of buddies don't fix messes.

Ordered Dometic toilet with spray to replace our Thetford that caused our leaking problem. It should be here Saturday. Hopefully one more problem solved.

Had a similar problem. Debris in the water line caused the toilet water valve to stick. When you replace the toilet look at where the water line connects to toilet.
Think about installing a shutoff valve at the toilet intake.

Welcome to the club of fiver flooded by tetford toilet. Until it has happened to you, you probably believed it wouldn't happen to you.

Exact same thing happened to us Dick. Luckily we were home and grandson caught it pretty quickly. It's all clean water so we sooped it up with towels and set fans blowing on it. Within 24 hours wouldn't know there was an incident. Jim

I read about the problems with the Thetford toilets many times on this forum and decided to install a Dometic 320 with sprayer. Nothing i can think of could be worse than a flooded rv. If it were a fire then i would be sure to give it 10 minutes to burn before i called the fire dept unless it were endangering someone or others property. My wife couldn't understand why i replaced what she thought was a perfectly good toilet for a new one. Maybe she should read this thread. Hope everything is back to normal and you can get back to enjoying your rv.
