Size of water closet - Montana Owners Club

Thought I'd bring up this topic again after spending a few days in our Montana. Maybe they'll get a new floor plan in the future that can address this issue if enough folks agree and we keep this where they can see it:

We'd both love to see the "water closet" larger, with a taller toilet that has some space around it. Maybe a totally enclosed bathroom? We've saw that in a 5th wheel earlier this year at an RV show and thought it was pretty nice. And, we've seen it in older motorhomes.

This is #1 on our list to look for when buying a new 5th wheel in a couple of years.

Because I cook so much, an oven placed higher is #2 on the list.

I thought they were all the same size in the Montanas but I can't say for sure. I have no idea how small the water closet is in the 3295RK but the one in our 2955RL is plenty big enough for my 6 foot 335 pound frame. In my opinion, any bigger and it would be wasted space that can be put to better use elsewhere. I do agree on the height of the toilet and so I did add a riser.

One of the features that draw us to the Montana line is the ample size of the WC. We have looked at Jayco Designer's and the WC in those is only about 2/3's the size of the one in the Monty.

It would be nice to bring back a door or dark drape to separate the bedroom from the bath.

I agree with D & M. Why not have the "Vanity Sink in the same space as the W/C? That way not only would there be more, "move around room", but I could turn the light on with the door closed when I want to get a cup of water or an asprin at night and not wake up my husband, while fumbling around in the med. cabinet.

Good Point! I never thought of that. I just took it for granted as our bathroom in our TT is enclosed, (Read SMALL).

Hi, my 2005 2955RL has a good size WC, also I have two sliding wooden doors one is between the bedroom and the bathroom area and the other at the top of the stairs between the bathroom area and the kitchen, lots of privacy and also the size of the WC was important to me, 6'2", 250lbs. The shower is ok too, a little crowded but still ok.

The only thing wrong with these campers is that they are not as large as your stick house. My guess is that the WC is the smallest space in the stick house also.

I complained about this as well when we first got our Montana. I felt like I was squatting on the floor and I would always ram my head into the wall when I stood up (I'm 6'2"). Our solution was a riser in addition to a high rise toilet. Between the two, the seat is about 19" off the ground.

It makes life a LOT easier. While a little more room would be nice, I don't think that I would want to give up the room anywhere else to get it...

I'm wondering if the 2005 models don't have a slightly larger WC. We could use a few more inches in ours but it appears that the new model owners don't have a complaint with it. We'll take a tape measure when we start looking in a couple of years.

We didn't use a tape measure. I took a newspaper along when we shopped for our unit. If I couldn't read it while seated we didn't like the unit. Some of the salesman thought I was nuts but some things must be done correctly

I have a '06 2980 and the w/c seems okay to me but the toilet flush is not the best. If you don't hold doen the flush you got a mess in the toilet because of the way the door rolls instead of opening. If you know what I mean.

we have the 2955RL "05" and the WC is so much roomy then the last fiver we had. I am very pleased with the room.

I can only say that WE'VE COME ALONG WAY BABY!!! I can remember our 1989 motorhome where the sink/toilet/shower were all in this little tiny space. You couldn't even turn around unless you opened the door. I am very happy to be able to move in this W/C. Kathi

In fact, I just talked to my mom and she reminded me of the Shasta we owned in the 60's didn't even have a toliet. I can remember having to pull the awning thru a track. One person had to feed it thru and the other person had to pull it till it was at the other end. Then my mom made a tarp kind of curtain that went around the awning. That is where all the kids slept on our cots with our sleeping bags. There were 6 of us and we really thought we were among the elite......Kathi

To tell the truth, I don't spend a lot of time in that little room so it really doesn't bother me. I'd rather have the room in other areas. I remember my folks' old 17' travel trailer having a water closet that also contained the sink and a shower curtain. You took a shower by sitting on the toilet seat and using the shower head on a hose. I think I like my Montana better!

I have to agree with Steve on this one; there is no place in the Montana that I spend less time than the WC. That space is better served in the bedroom area in my opinion, but that and a $1.50 will get you a cup of coffee--or perhaps a half gallon of diesel fuel!

We've had our 2006 Montana 3400RL since mid August. My husband and I both have discovered we do NOT like the W/C and vanity setup. We have the shower in ours. Forget about sleeping in if one of us is up early. I would prefer the vanity enclosed in the W/C for privacy. Overall we both are liking our Montana. There are just those items you discover after the fact. So we'll put this issue on the list for the next RV purchase.

There are two places in a camper that, IMHO, do not need to be large..The W.C..you are in and out.We do prefer to Toilet to be seperate and private and since we are both small persons the camper size W.C's are not a problem and the bedroom.Helen likes to have enough room to walk around the bed to make it.How much time do you spend in the bedroom and when you are in there you are not moving around much...at least at our age we aren't.We will take the room in the areas you spend the most time in.

I so agree with you. The 3400 still has plenty of room to get dressed, get out of the shower, etc. But the good part is in the living room and kitchen area. We lived in ours for 9 months and never found a problem. It is a personal preference and life style. For us if one gets up before the other, the first up goes into the kitchen and turns on the coffee pot. Ed turns on the TV and I turn on the computer. We wait for face and teeth washing until the other gets up. We wait for the other for breakfast. 99% of the time we get up at about the same time. We love our 3400 soooooooooooooooo much.
