Garage Bay Door Screw Holes Stripped

All the screws on one plate holding my garage bay door stripped out due to broken gas spring. What would be the best way to reattach the plate? Would toothpicks and glue stuffed into the holes be strong enough to hold the plate?

Several options have been discussed on this forum to choose from. You might try a search. I had screws coming out as well, and from lowes bought two of the flat metal brackets used with wood construction, mounted them on the cargo door with screws and liquid nails, and reinstalled the brackets on top of them with self tapping screws. Year ago, still holding strong. Not my idea, got from the forum, from a post with pictures.

We used tooth picks then Gorilla glue on the plate ben good for two years.

On my 2012 I had that happen and I just bought one size bigger screws and like Rich said Gorilla Glue on the treads and behind the plate and it worked great then I traded it in 6 months later So I hope it is still working for the Next Owner

The inside skin isn't too thick, so if it's torn that bad, you might need to add a reinforcement plate to reattach the strut bracket to. This is a link to the same topic, where I posted my fix when I had all the strut brackets coming loose. http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ad.php?t=58811

Had all of mine pull out. I used 3M5200 behind the existing plate, held loosely in place with two of the old screws while the adhesive cured. Replaced screws and haven't had any issues since doing this. John

Ours are still holding up fine just as they came from the factory and we are full timers.

Matchsticks work well, but wire solder might work better in the holes.

Fill the holes full of epoxy and screw it back together and it will last forever.

Thanks all. I went with slow setting epoxy on the back of the plate and in the holes and kept pushing toothpick pieces onto the holes until the screws held. If a screw didn't hold I unscrewed the screw and pushed in another epoxy covered toothpick piece and repeated until the screw held. The slow setting epoxy let me keep messing with the screws and toothpicks until the screws took hold.
