Old campers/New fifth-wheelers
We're Phil and Susan Eyler from Loogootee,Indiana. We've camped for years. We started with tents, moved to pop-ups, and have now bought our first and probably last fifth-wheel, 3400 Montana.
We're a year away from retirement(teachers) and plan to spend the cold Indiana winters somewhere warm where we can play golf and see the ocean. We also want to travel to many of the wonderful national parks that our country has to offer. We think we have found the perfect camper to meet our needs.
We pull with a 2006 Chevy 2500 HD with a Duramax diesel engine and Allison transmission. Before my next trip we plan on adding Firestone Airbags.
We took our first trip last week to Charleston, SC and then to New Smyrna Beach, FL. It was our first trip ever pulling a fifth-wheel. We had a great time and had no problems to speak of.

Welome to the forum. I don't think there isn't a problem that you may encounter for which you can't find the answer right here. There is such a great wealth of knowledge amongst the members that have either had the problem you might have or they will have the problem. Not everyone posts their problems and their resolution. But there are enough members who share so that we all can make use of their knowledge and experiences.

Welcome Phil and Susan from Loogootee from a Phill in Brownsburg. We too are about a year away from retirement and have on 06 3400. I'm biased of course but I think you made a wise selection. Send me a PM sometime and I'll clue you in on some possible mods you may want to consider with that model.

Well, Phil and Susan, Hi from another Phil plus Cathy. We also have the 3400 and love it. Our first foray into RVing was two years ago when we bought this behemoth and left Anchorage, Alaska for good. We have been on the road since and don't know where we will settle, if we ever do. Welcome to "THE BEST DARNED FORUM ON THE WWW!!!!!" Don't be strangers nor afraid to ask any questions you might have about your Montana. Hope to see you on the road someday.

Welcome to the MOC forum and congratulations on purchasing a Montana. We alos recently purchased our first Montana after years of camping in a variety of means.
We are just starting our third year of retirement and will be headed towards Alaska in another few weeks. That last year of working will actually pass quite quickly.
Enjoy your RV.

Hi, Phil and Susan! I already retired from teaching once but went back to work when the local high school needed an AP English Lit teacher. The good news is that I am one year, maybe less, from retiring again! Our plan is to sell our house and hit the road in our Montana.
You will love your Montana and you will REALLY love this wonderful MOC forum!

Phil and Janie welcome you also from Warsaw, IN. You must attend the fall rally in Goshen, you learn more in that one week than you could ever learn anywhere else. Besides that you meet many people (who have your same exact camper) who love to laugh, eat, and have fun!
Retirement is sooo much fun.

We jumped from backpacking to fifth wheel and have been full timing since returning from China in March 2007. These 2+ years have been outstanding in spite of several setbacks. Recovery from broken bones and surgeries have shown us that living in an RV is really no different than in a stick house as far as living is concerned.
Having wheels to move our home around is great! Getting rid of all that stuff was freeing. For us, caring for all those "things" was bondage. It is nice to be home wherever we find ourselves.
Welcome to the great Montana adventure and to the forum.
