Aawning motor leaks oil.

I read a article about a 2017 Montana having an issue with
oil leaking from awning motors. According to Ketstone, they are aware of the issue. They provided owners with a quick fix.
I was wondering if someone had heard if the 2018 has been fixed.

Why would a 12 volt motor have oil in it!? Not likely.

On the High Country the slides are cable driven with the motor on the inside wall right above the slide out roof

There is a big difference between an awning and a slide out!

It's not just High Country's that have electric slides. Many Montana's have at least one electric slide also.

3 of our 5 are electric but no cables are visible. I haven't had the time to check them and see how they are driven yet.

I have a 2018 high country. Yes the slide out motor do seep grease past the gaskets onto the slide out roof membrane. Causes it to bubble and detach. Keystone is providing a bandaid fix for it until your warranty expires, then it becomes your problem. Their fix is a drip pan and to use a heat gun to push the bubble back down. Problem started in 2017 with new Norco motors.

I totally agree with the drip pan is a BAND AID approach to this issue and it is designed to get your unit past warranty at which point it is as you say the owners problem.

Be advised that the GM of Keystone thinks this is an acceptable solution to the problem. I suppose from his viewpoint it is as it alleviates the companies liabilities or so HE thinks. I wonder what a judge would think in a class action lawsuit??? Perhaps this issue, issue with the collapsing AC ducts and problems with electric leveling systems should be wrapped up in one big package and handed back to Keystone as a class action lawsuit. Perhaps that would prompt so real solutions on their part and a recall of what is obviously faulty equipment??? Oddly enough just the mention of Class Action Lawsuit on this website has already prompted Keystone to contact me.

Its not actually the motor itself it is the gear box attached to it.

Yeah it's the actuator. I'm going down to the State Attorney General Office this week and file a complaint with the consumer protection bureau. That's my first step. The 12 month warranty states that defective parts are to be replaced. Drip pans are not replacements and you still have to wipe them out every now and then. I'm a disabled veteran and have to hire people to do these things. Had this issue never happened I wouldn't have to be paying another party to check all of this every 3 to 4 months according to the keystone service rep. So it's just time to elevate the issue and start getting other people involved.

Just one more example of when Keystone can save a nickel or less on an item they do not test or investigate. They just buy the cheapest junk like they did with window blinds. As most do not use a new unit more than 4 weeks in the 1st year they most often win the warranty game.

After seeing the proposed repairs I filled out a report on Pissedconsumer.com and detailed what is happening with the RVs and the band aid fix that keystone wants to do. Pissedconsumer.com wants to do a Skype interview with me tomorrow to use in their other online forums. YouTube, Twitter, facebook, etc. I have all my notes ready.

Glad to hear it! Only thing a major corporation hates worse than lawsuits is bad press! Maybe that will prompt ACTION on a real fix and recall
