V tailgate replacement
I damaged my tailgate and need to get a replacement. I am considering one the V models. What V tailgates do you recommend? What is the source for purchasing one?
By the way I have a 2009 Dodge 3500 Megacab.

I just bought mine from Tweety's RV, Custom Flow all metal with lock and is a nice gate and free shipping and can be painted to match your truck . I got my stock gate damaged a little with the slider back and truck and trailer were twisted in opposite directions and pin box scraped inside of tailgate. They even offer a insert that goes in the V to close it up if you use a bed cover.

I am with Wayne on this one. Call me Sgt. Schultz......"I know nothhhing!!!" To the OP (Mel), if you do a search on the V-tailgate, you will get a clue as to why we are refraining, something to the tune of 40 pages or so worth??

I have a GO Industries model on my 2006 Dodge Megacab. It's the stainless steel top bar version with the louvers painted black. I bought it from a local shop that had put spray-on bed protection on our truck. The gate cost about $400. I noticed from the GO Industries website that they list it for over $600.I'm not sure if the price went up or my source got a good price. In general I'm pleased with it. I certainly don't have to worry about dropping the tailgate late at night after a long day of driving.
The only difficulty I sometimes have with it is the release mechanism. The mechanism consists of two small tabs located on both sides of the gate(one per side). The tabs are connected together with a cable that routes along the gate frame. This is to allow release from either side of the truck. Sometimes the tabs are hard to use and I have to go to the other side and push that tab.On some occasions when I raise the gate I have to release it again and slam it shut to get a tight connection.
If I had it to do over again I'd still buy this model. I love the appearance of the stainless steel. It's been on the truck for about 2 years and has held up well.
One of the weld points between the stainless and a not-stainless piece has shown a very minor amount of rust which is visible only up close. I simply put a bit of CRC rust inhibitor on that spot and have not seen any additional rust.
I saved my original gate. It's prety simple to change gates. I've done it several times to carry gravel and yard mulch.
