Florida 5ers--How did you fare?

Hoping that all our Florida friends will check in with us and let us know how you weathered the latest storm. Trust that you will be getting back to normal soon. We've been wondering how you are????

They just restored the power here in Spring Hill. We only got 65 knot gust and Monty did fine. No damage but a lot of work to do.

Now we are waiting to see where IVan is going. What a year for Floridians.

Winds here about 110-120. Sure did look like they were more. Neighbor said the Monty didnt hardly shake at all. It was a blessing to see it and the house in one piece.

I posted my report in the "Announcement" forum. But you are right this is not a fun time for Floridians. About the only part of the state not too affected my the other two is the little slice of the extreme SW side from Naples to Sarasota and Ivan looks like he might take aim for that.

I don't worry too much about the wind blowing Miss Montana over, it's more what could blow into it or on top of her. And of course flooding. One problem with going on the run again is finding fuel. I have a feeling if Ivan takes aim for FL again there will be many people on the run and every-time that happens gas and fuel disappear quickly. Right now there is only a few towns that have it.

Getting harder to find fuel here. With Ivan coming everybody is stocking up. I went to five stations before I found some diesel. Gas is drying up. Don't know if I will be able to make the rally. Ivan will probably Florida somewhere, probably the panhandle. With no fuel it would be hard to make it. Wait and see.

Happy to hear you both made it through ok jsmitfl and fla native. What a ride!

We are OK for now. We evacuated last Thursday to Montgomery, AL.
However, we didn't get there until Friday afternoon. Did you see the news
of all the cars going North on the Florida Turnpike and I-75. Well, we part
of that big group - only we were in a truck but pulling a 5th wheel camper. We got
up to 30 mph occaisionally, but mostly 5 to 15 to standstill. About 6:30 we
started calling campgrounds (we were still south of Ocala at that time). We
found one near where I-75 and I-10 cross in Lake City. We got there about
8:45 or so. The next morning (Friday) we got up early and were on the road
ahead of the traffic and as we went past Tallahassee is when the traffic
finally picked up - but it never got as bad as it was on Thursday.

We arrived back home at 11:30 pm Monday night to an undamaged home, but
a lot of outside damage. Pool enclosure is a mess, fence down, all our
oranges and grapefruit on the ground, a ton of leaves in the pool, many
trees stripped of those leaves. We had no power and a boil-water alert in
force. We had about 5 gal we stored before evacuating so we never boiled
any. We have power now, but still have to boil our water - but still using our stash.

Do not have Cable TV or Internet thru my cable yet. Right now I am using
my laptop and my phone (boy, is this slow). Do have a radio and our
home phone. Cell phone service is very unpredictable (towers are down).

I'm back to work as of Wednesday. Got paid for last Thursday and Friday
and Tuesday. Monday was a paid holiday. Many of my neighbors did not get
paid for the hours they missed at work and many businesses are still closed.
Only one of three Wal*Marts in the local area is open. Other two are closed
because of no power. It's not good economically here in Florida. The state
is going to take a big hit. And to make things worse, Ivan is threatening
to strike us. Say a prayer for the people in Florida - we need them.

I hope this reassures you that we are safe and looking ahead to plan our
escape again if neessary.

Jim

Hey BigRed glad to hear all is well up there. Was laughing about the leaves in the pool and the fruit on the ground. Its not funny but good lord all that fruit in the groves is going to waste this year. I beat OJ goes to 5.00 a gallon. And the pool, we took 2 ,40 gallon garbage cans of trash out of our pool. What a mess.

Praying for you guys down there! Hopefully Ivan the terrible will slide off and go elsewhere.. I'm thinking you have had your share now.
Finding myself grateful to live here in tornado alley is a bit strange.

Please keep us posted as Ivan approaches. I know we hear different things on National TV than you guys hear on the local channels there. Our daughter is in Gulfport. She just moved there in July and this is her third hurricane.

Hello Florida friends,
It is good to hear from you although the news is not often the best. We are glad that you are safe. We hope that you will again be spared by the next one coming in. IF thoughts and prayers did any good for the first round we will all certainly do it again for you. I guess we can be thankful for our earquakes in CA--at least we don't have them as often.

Glad to hear that these Montanas can weather a storm. We're near Montgomery, Alabama and thought about moving north before Ivan heads this way....but all the campgrounds are full. Our problem is that we're on the edge of a heavily treed lot and I shutter to think of even a single branch coming down on our fiver. We may move to the parking lot of our old closed up Walmart, fill up our tanks for weight and let the unit sit it out there.
